Germany may face turbulence, self isolation, and industrial decline. German legislators: Not working closely with China. Journalist | China | Working closely
According to Global Times Global Network reporter Xing Xiaojing and Prince Jin Cui, German Federal House left-wing Party member Sevim Dagderren recently concluded her visit to China. In an exclusive interview with Global Times reporters, she stated that without close cooperation with China, Germany may face not only significant social unrest, but also self isolation and industrial decline. The practice of decoupling from China and reducing risks is extremely foolish for Germany and the European economy. Dagderren stated that the German government should not participate in the US's ongoing policy of confrontation with China, but should strengthen relations and dialogue with China, and advocate for the EU to implement an independent policy towards China.
Dagderren is currently a German Federal Member of Parliament, Coordinator of the Parliamentary Group of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and Vice Chairman of the German Chinese Parliamentary Group of the Federal Parliament. Dagderren once stated that the tragedy of the United States and its allies launching military challenges against Russia seems to be being repeated in a dangerous farce against China. The United States is trying its best to push Germany and Japan to the forefront. In response to Germany's decision to provide "Leopard" tanks to Ukraine, Dagren criticized "the decision as a historical mistake.".
Dagderren visited Beijing, Chengdu, and Shanghai from May 29th to June 6th for exchanges and talks with Chinese government agencies, university scholars, and related enterprises, focusing on topics such as Germany China relations, China's socio-economic development, and the world multipolar order. In an interview with Global Times reporters, Dagderren said that the United States is attempting to push Germany towards the forefront of its policy of confrontation with China, and the German government must resist such actions. Hundreds of thousands of job positions in Germany rely on good German China relations, especially cooperation in manufacturing and trade. China is Germany's most important trading partner, with a bilateral trade volume of approximately 300 billion euros in 2022. If there is no close cooperation with China, Germany may face not only significant social unrest, but also self isolation and industrial decline. The German company communicating with Dagderren also holds a similar view on this.
During her visit to China, Dagderren was deeply impressed by the wisdom of China's dialogue partners. She told Global Times reporters that the West assumed that China could be manipulated based on external standards of judgment, which is the most serious misunderstanding. "The Western elite community has not truly freed themselves from colonial historical thinking. They bear responsibility in brutal wars such as Iraq and Afghanistan, but long-term arrogance has led them to have the illusion that they can or must 'train' 'countries in the' global south '." Dagderren said, "They have not yet come to realize a multipolar, highly valued world of sovereignty and mutual respect ideologically."
When some people in the United States and the European Union advocate for decoupling from China, German Foreign Minister Berber visited China in April and Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang visited Germany in May. According to Xinhua News Agency, Qin Gang met with German Chancellor's Foreign Affairs Advisor, Prutner, in Beijing on May 31st. Both sides focused on in-depth communication on jointly preparing for the seventh round of China Germany government consultations, and exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
When talking about the frequent interactions between China and Germany in recent times, Dagderren analyzed to Global Times reporters that these diplomatic contacts are very important. It would be even better if the dialogue form that has been reached but put on hold so far could be restored, and regular intergovernmental consultations could be held to develop friendly relations between Germany and China. However, it seems that the German government has not yet implemented an independent foreign policy towards China, but has basically followed Washington's instructions, which is detrimental to the German people.
It is worth noting that EU foreign ministers discussed China Europe relations at a meeting in Stockholm on May 12th. An internal document drafted by the EU External Action Agency stated that although the risks faced by Europe need to be reduced, ties with China should not be severed. The website of Politburo in the United States commented that as tensions between Washington and Beijing intensify, the European Union is calling on member governments to maintain dialogue with China.

Unfortunately, these are just smoke bombs. Dagderren said that "reducing risk" is another way of saying "decoupling", which is an extremely foolish approach for Germany and the European economy. The fact is, the EU wants to launch an economic war against China. The EU is considering implementing the 11th round of sanctions against Russia, with Chinese companies being included for the first time. The Netherlands, a member of the European Union, is following the United States in imposing chip export controls on China. In the medium term, due to enormous pressure, it is expected that the EU will also move towards Washington's path.
Ambassador Li Hui, the Chinese government's special representative for Eurasian affairs, recently visited five countries: Ukraine, Poland, France, Germany, and Russia to communicate with all parties on a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis. Dagederen told the Global Times that if Germany has an independent foreign policy, it can undoubtedly cooperate in many fields with a view to ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict at the negotiating table as soon as possible. However, if the German government and the United States choose to launch a NATO proxy war against Russia, provide more and more heavy weapons to Ukraine, and intensify the cruel economic sanctions against Moscow, then there is little room left for the peaceful settlement of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Dagederen said, "I have great respect for China's perseverance and determination in mediating the Russia-Ukraine conflict. No matter how many chances of success in the short term, we must try this effort."
Dagderren stated that Germany is pouring significant resources into NATO's proxy war and economic sanctions against Russia, but the question is, how long can this approach last? The high inflation rates in energy and food have caused the most severe wage contraction among Germans since World War II, leading to a recession in the German economy. The latest survey shows that about two-thirds of Germans oppose providing fighter jets to the Ukrainian armed forces. "However, my impression is that we will only see changes in Berlin when Washington is willing to consider an immediate ceasefire," said Dagderren.
"American elites walk on corpses." Dagderren once called for the US military to leave Germany, stating that "the characteristics of US foreign policy are war, violation of international law, and support for coups.". In an interview with Global Times reporters, Dagglen further explained that the United States has left a bloody footprint in world history, and to protect its imperialist interests, American elites have walked on the corpses. The Korean War in the 1950s and the wars in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia in the 1960s and 1970s caused millions of deaths.
The latest survey by the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University shows that after 9/11, the United States claimed at least 4.5 million lives in wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, Libya, and Pakistan, causing 38 million people to be displaced. The war launched by the United States dealt a devastating blow to the economies of these countries. After 20 years of NATO troops led by the United States stationed in Afghanistan, more than half of the country's population still lives in extreme poverty.
"However, no US president is responsible for the millions of people who died in war, which proves the double standards of the West." Dagderren told Global Times reporters that in response to the decline of global hegemony, the United States risked triggering a large-scale war by upgrading its policies towards China, attempting to sacrifice Europe as the front line of the US conflict with China in this context. She believes that the United States' attempt to prevent EU countries, including Germany, from developing independent foreign policies is the biggest obstacle to future German China and European China relations.
