TEPCO plans to build a 1-kilometer-long underwater tunnel from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant near the sea to discharge diluted radioactive contaminated water into the Pacific Ocean. TEPCO officially started the construction of the underwater tunnel project in August last year. According to reports, the tunnel construction of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant's contaminated water discharge project has been basically completed, and the overall construction of the underwater tunnel is expected to be completed by the end of June.
According to reports, TEPCO began injecting seawater into the discharge tunnel around 3:30 pm local time on the 5th, and the tunnel will be filled with about 6000 tons of seawater during the daytime on the 6th.
After the launch of Japan's plan to discharge nuclear contaminated water into the sea, it has been opposed by domestic civil society groups such as fishing groups.
