"In 2000, when I returned to school, two teachers studying oracle bone inscriptions urged me to carry out research on oracle bone inscriptions' informatization, and my understanding of oracle bone inscriptions was equivalent to a blank. As an undergraduate student majoring in mathematics and a recent graduate of a master's degree in computer software, Liu Yongge was determined to make oracle bone inscriptions' informatization research a lifelong pursuit.".
When it comes to his research work, Liu Yongge jokingly describes it as "blocking both ends". He said, "On one end is China's oldest civilization oracle bone script, and on the other end is advanced computer technology and artificial intelligence."
Oracle bone script was discovered in the north of Xiaotun Village, Wuli, northwest of Anyang City, more than 3000 years ago. This ancient script is also full of mystery and unknown due to its age. "Because oracle bone script is different from Chinese characters, there are many characters that we do not recognize. Therefore, you cannot use Pinyin input method, and some characters are like a painting, so they cannot use radicals or be separated. Previously, oracle bone script input method used encoding input, which had a high memory burden and learning cost." Liu Yongge said.
Liu Yongge said that in the past, whether it was writing papers, giving lectures, or conducting research, all occasions required the use of image pasting, the development of oracle bone script input methods, and the establishment of a font library, making it easy for anyone to input is crucial.

So a project called "Yin Qi Wen Yuan", which gathers oracle bone inscriptions information, was quietly launched. This project is to provide the world with all information about oracle bone inscriptions on the Internet, so that people around the world can understand, understand and study oracle bone inscriptions. In 2019, the world's first free oracle bone database "Yin Qiwen Yuan", meticulously crafted by Liu Yongge's team over 8 years, made a stunning debut.
"For example, if you don't recognize a certain character, you can log in to our Yin Qi Wen Yuan and click on the radical to find information related to that character. You can input that character into the document," Liu Yongge said for example.
Since the first day of the opening of "Yin Qi Wen Yuan", the platform has provided free services to users around the world. It currently has 152 descriptions and is the largest oracle bone database. "It not only serves global experts in oracle bone inscriptions, archaeology, history, and writing, but also attracts enthusiasts of ancient Chinese characters, primary and secondary school Chinese teachers, calligraphy enthusiasts, and others to use it."
Previously, it was difficult to find oracle bone inscriptions, and even oracle bone experts could not have access to all the information. After the completion of the "Yin Qi Wen Yuan" project, this problem was solved.

Empowering technological innovation to decipher the "civilization code" of oracle bones
Just recently, Liu Yongge's laboratory collaborated with Tencent to jointly carry out human-machine collaboration to assist in the research and inheritance of oracle bone inscriptions. This project mainly focuses on two aspects of work.
"On the one hand, it is to use artificial intelligence technology to provide intelligent tools for interpreting oracle bone inscriptions, such as ancient text graphic retrieval tools. These tools will be set up in the 'Yin Qi Wen Yuan'. On the other hand, Tencent's dissemination platform advantages will be utilized for the dissemination of oracle bone inscriptions, such as the WeChat mini program 'Amazing Oracle Bone inscriptions' that we are currently working on. We will spread oracle bone inscriptions culture to the public, especially in primary and secondary schools, and carry out research activities to develop from our province to the whole country. The mini program will undergo internal testing at the end of March." Liu Yongge introduced.

To complete the information collection and input work of the Oracle big data platform, students participate in Oracle informationization research projects every year from their freshman year. With the support of Liu Yongge, the college also offered a characteristic course on Oracle Bone Inscription Information Processing.
"Experts in oracle bone inscriptions, calligraphy, and information technology... Currently, we have formed a cross disciplinary and multidisciplinary team for oracle bone inscriptions' information processing, and the teaching and research of oracle bone inscriptions' information technology are among the top in the country," said Liu Yongge proudly.
"At present, we have achieved three technological breakthroughs in our cooperation with Tencent. Firstly, we have proposed a fully informative digital model of oracle bone inscriptions. Secondly, we have developed high-definition shooting technology for oracle bone inscriptions using lighting transformation matrices. Thirdly, we have established the technology and equipment for three-dimensional modeling of oracle bone inscriptions and will immediately conduct the first batch of oracle bone inscriptions' three-dimensional modeling experiments."
"Do a good job in inheritance, build the 'Yin Qi Wen Yuan' well, and make Anyang truly a world oracle bone data center; boldly innovate, use artificial intelligence technology to decipher oracle bone inscriptions, empower research with technology, use computers to decipher oracle bone inscriptions, uncover the 'civilization code' behind oracle bones, and tell the story of oracle bone inscriptions." Liu Yongge said that he wants to bring oracle bone research into a new era of intelligence.
