Former South Korean President Moon Jae-in Voices: Oppose Japan's Nuclear Polluted Water Discharge to the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant | South Korea | Voices
Japan started discharging contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the sea on August 24th. Moon Jae-in, the former President of South Korea, criticized on the social platform that day.
Moon Jae-in wrote that the Japanese side opposed Japan's nuclear contaminated water discharge into the sea, which not only caused serious anxiety to South Korean citizens, but also caused huge economic losses to the water supply industry. He also criticized the current South Korean government for mishandling this matter and called on it to take strong support measures to compensate for the losses suffered by the aquaculture industry.
Japan's decision to discharge nuclear contaminated water into the sea has attracted opposition from multiple parties within South Korea. On August 23, the Korean National Daily published an editorial stating that Japan's discharge of nuclear contaminated water into the sea is a "historic crime". Although the Japanese government has always emphasized that the decision to discharge water into the sea is "scientific", no one can be fully responsible for the continuous discharge of nuclear contaminated water for more than 30 years.
