Former President of Serbia: The "the Belt and Road" Initiative is of great significance and far-reaching impact Initiative | One Belt | Significance
China Daily Online, Beijing, August 18 (Xinhua) On the afternoon of August 17, Boris Tadic, former President of Serbia, said at the international seminar "the Belt and Road Decade: Progress and Outlook" that the "the Belt and Road" initiative is committed to promoting connectivity, and all participants can benefit from it. Therefore, this initiative is of great significance.
Tadic pointed out that "China first proposed the the Belt and Road Initiative ten years ago, aiming to better promote the development of international relations and the smooth flow of international trade... In the past decade, many infrastructure projects have made great progress, and China has brought tremendous changes to many developing countries."
He sighed: "At the beginning of the the Belt and Road Initiative, we had no expectation that it would bring such great changes and have such a far-reaching impact on the world. We should focus on the present and future development at the same time."
"At present, infrastructure construction needs to be considered, which can connect China with Central Asia, South Asia, and even European countries. The accession of Western European countries should be the next step." He further analyzed, "In terms of the ocean, traditionally, the 'Belt and Road' means establishing maritime channels, so we need to build and invest in ports. Investing in ports is not only crucial for China's economy, but also can make trade between countries more smooth."
