According to the official website of the China Academy of International Studies, Chen Bo, former Chinese Ambassador to Serbia, has been appointed as the President and Party Secretary of the China Academy of International Studies.
Chen Bo was born in January 1970 and graduated from the School of Foreign Affairs. In 1992, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and held various positions including clerk and attendant at the Eurasian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attendant and third secretary at the Chinese Embassy in Yugoslavia, third secretary, deputy director, and director of the Eurasian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Serbia, and counselor at the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Since 2011, Chen Bo has served as the Deputy Director of the European Department. In October 2014, Chen Bo was appointed as the deputy mayor of Tangshan City, Hebei Province, starting his one-year term. In October 2015, Chen Bo succeeded Dong Chunfeng as the Chinese Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the beginning of 2019, Chen Bo was appointed as the Chinese Ambassador to Serbia, and later stepped down in August of this year.
The Chinese Academy of International Studies is a professional research institution directly under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, formerly known as the "Institute of International Relations of the Chinese Academy of Sciences", which was founded in 1956. Mainly conduct research on major issues in current international politics and the world economy, and provide opinions and suggestions for decision-making reference. In June 2014, the Office of the Central Organization Committee approved the renaming of the China Institute of International Studies to the China Institute of International Studies. In 2020, after being reviewed and approved by the Central Committee for Deepening Reform, the institute was listed as a pilot unit for the construction of national high-end think tanks.
According to public information, the China Institute of International Studies currently has 189 employees and eight research departments: the Institute of American Studies, the Institute of Asia Pacific Studies, the Institute of European Studies, the Institute of Developing Countries, the Institute of Eurasian Studies, the Institute of International Strategy, the Institute of World Economy and Development, and the Institute of Latin American and Caribbean Studies. There are also four affiliated institutions: the China Pacific Economic Cooperation National Committee, the China Committee of the Asia Pacific Security Cooperation Council, the China Foundation for International Studies, and the China Association for Arms Control and Disarmament. The Academia Sinica has an editorial department responsible for editing and publishing "Research on International Issues" and "Research on China's International Issues".
Xu Bu, former president of the China Academy of International Studies, took office in 2020. He has successively served as Deputy Director of the Policy Planning Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Counsellor at the Embassy of China in Canada, Deputy Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to ASEAN, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Chile.
