According to the website of the Russian "satellite" radio station on July 7th, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Belarusian Ambassador Lukashevic has submitted a note to Brazil confirming Minsk's intention to become a formal member of the BRICS countries.
The website of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that "Belarusian Ambassador to Brazil Lukashevic met with Brazilian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Escorel, who is responsible for international cooperation affairs. During the meeting, the Belarusian side submitted a note confirming Belarus' intention to become an official member of the BRICS countries."
The report states that the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also pointed out that the Belarusian Ambassador and the Brazilian Deputy Foreign Minister discussed the importance of providing potassium fertilizer to the Brazilian market and the prospects for Belarus to participate in the national plan for Brazilian agricultural producers.
The BRICS countries include Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. It is said that Algeria, Argentina, Iran, Indonesia, Türkiye, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and other countries have also expressed their willingness to join the BRICS countries.
According to previous reports from foreign media, South Africa took over as the rotating presidency of the BRICS countries in January this year. At a meeting held in Cape Town in early June, BRICS foreign ministers considered the idea of expanding this cooperation mechanism. A relevant document may be submitted to the 2023 BRICS Summit to be held in August of this year.
