According to a report by Agence France Presse in Seoul on August 18th, the North Korean military stated on the 18th that it had urgently dispatched fighter jets this week to deal with its alleged infringement by US spy planes.
A military spokesperson stated in a statement released by the official Korean Central News Agency that a US aircraft violated the "economic waters over" the eastern waters of North Korea on the morning of the 17th.
The statement stated that the North Korean military "immediately issued an order to urgently dispatch Eastern Air Defense Division fighter jets to the airspace invaded by US reconnaissance planes to respond to surveillance flights.".
The report stated that the spokesperson described this behavior as a "highly dangerous military provocation" and warned that the North Korean military "will not hesitate to respond in any way to safeguard the sovereignty of the Republic.".
Last month, North Korea threatened to shoot down any US spy planes that violated its airspace and accused Washington of "openly conducting reconnaissance activities, far exceeding wartime levels.".
