Food import applications from nine counties and districts in Japan will be temporarily suspended. Macau Municipal Administration: If nuclear contaminated water is discharged into the sea, Municipal Administration | Japan | counties and districts
On June 13, Ke Lan, Acting Chairman of the Management Committee of the Macau Municipal Administration, stated in a media interview that he is closely monitoring Japan's plan to discharge Fukushima nuclear contaminated water into the sea. The Macau Municipal Administration is maintaining close contact with the General Administration of Customs and neighboring areas to follow up on the latest developments in the situation. If Japan initiates the discharge of nuclear contaminated water into the sea, the Municipal Administration will immediately expand the scope of import suspension applications to the nine highest risk counties in Japan, including seafood, vegetables, and fruits from Tokyo and Chiba prefectures. It is not ruled out that further requirements for imported fresh food from other counties must be accompanied by radiation testing certificates and pass relevant inspection and quarantine measures before allowing imports.
It is reported that since the nuclear accident in Fukushima in 2011, the Macau Municipal Administration has temporarily suspended the import application of Japanese Fukushima food. Food from the nine counties with the highest risk near Fukushima must comply with current import hygiene documents, be accompanied by a radiation monitoring certificate issued by Japan and a certificate of origin, and undergo inspection and quarantine. In the future, the Macau Municipal Administration will strengthen the testing of imported and market sold food, and increase the nuclear radiation testing of Japanese food.
