Focusing on the common interests of China and the United States, and maintaining smooth communication channels
In 1973, on the eve of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States and the beginning of a decades long honeymoon period, the National Committee on US China Trade was established under the auspices of the White House, the US Department of State, and the Department of Commerce. For half a century, China and the United States have become the two largest economies in the world. As a private non-profit and non partisan business association, the National Committee on US China Trade has been committed to economic and trade exchanges between the two countries, playing an important role.
This year, the National Committee on US China Trade celebrated its 50th anniversary, but the association found that what needs to be addressed now is the already changing and constantly changing pattern of bilateral economic and trade relations between China and the United States, rather than promoting further expansion of economic and trade ties between the two countries. Nowadays, the Biden administration is strengthening its control over US technology exports and investments in China, and the US government's "Indo Pacific strategy" has caused a shock wave, both of which are damaging bilateral trade between the two countries.
On Monday of this week, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council met with the 50th anniversary visit to China led by Chairman of the Board of Directors of the US China National Committee on Trade, Ge Shibai, at the Great Hall of the People. He pointed out that currently, China US relations and economic and trade cooperation are facing some difficulties.
The United States is determined to confront China and develop a competitive strategy, even at the cost of the two countries' economies and long-standing interdependence. At present, the trade volume between China and the United States is continuously declining, and they are no longer the largest trading partners between each other. And within the US government, especially the hawkish faction in Congress, they are deluding China to be completely kicked out of the US supply chain, and even the global supply chain. Although the expression has changed from "decoupling" to "de risk", the essence has not changed.
Recently, amidst numerous issues facing bilateral relations between China and the United States, both sides have released encouraging news: US Secretary of Commerce Gina Redmond will visit Beijing and Shanghai from August 27th to 30th to engage in in-depth communication on a series of economic and trade related issues between China and the United States.
In the past two months, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of the Treasury Yellen have visited China successively, and Raymond's visit will continue the good momentum of maintaining smooth communication channels between the two sides. I hope that this exchange can propose better solutions to the problems and challenges in the economic and trade relations between the two countries, and explore potential areas of cooperation.
China's ability to attract American companies is not because of cheap labor and a huge market, but because of the professionalism of Chinese tooling engineers and the responsiveness of the entire industry supply chain, which can help American companies enhance their global competitiveness. This is exactly opposite to the general perception of the public.
When meeting with the delegation visiting China for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the US China Trade Commission, Li Qiang pointed out that China will continue to expand market access, comprehensively optimize the business environment, maintain and promote fair competition, and protect enterprise property rights and entrepreneur rights in accordance with the law. This reflects China's sincerity and hopes that the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries can serve the common interests of both sides.
