Filipino activists oppose Japan's strong push for nuclear contaminated water discharge into the sea: do not pollute our marine organization | plan | multiple parties
On June 19th local time, representatives of Filipino fishermen and multiple organizations held a forum in Quezon City, strongly opposing Japan's discharge of pollutants into the sea and urging the Japanese government to listen to the voices of people from all countries. The forum also extended an invitation to the Japanese Embassy in the Philippines, but did not receive a response from the Japanese side.
Filipino columnist Li Tianrong: The plan of Japan's Fukushima nuclear contaminated water being discharged into the Pacific is too scary. Multiple countries in Asia will be affected, not only the Philippines, but also Japanese fishermen, South Korea, and other countries around the world. We call on the Japanese government to stop this terrible criminal behavior.
Philippine Consumers and Commuters Federation President Havilana: Water is the source of life. If you pollute the water source, it is depriving you of life, which is the most basic right of humanity. The Japanese government needs to reconsider its nuclear contaminated water discharge plan.
Philippine environmentalist Veronica Cabe: We have every reason to oppose the dumping of nuclear contaminated water in the Pacific. The Pacific is our source of food and our livelihood. I believe that the Japanese government should choose the health and well-being of its people, rather than choosing interests. They may be considering saving money, but the problem is that saving money cannot solve nuclear pollution, saving people's lives is more important than saving money.
