Female PhD missing while traveling alone in Tajikistan? Embassy response: has been in contact with the parents of the parties involved, staff | blogger | embassy
On the 15th, a blogger posted on social media seeking help, claiming that her friend Ms. Zheng went missing while traveling alone in Central Asia and requesting to spread the news.
The blogger also shared the timeline of her friend's stay in Tajikistan. The timeline showed that on July 18th, Ms. Zheng chartered a car in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, for 10 days to travel to the Pamir Plateau. It was the last day she contacted her mother on WeChat, and the accommodation for the evening was unknown. On July 19th, when arriving in the Batang area of Lushan District, due to the inability of vehicles to pass, I planned to get off the car and cross the bridge to play in the lake area, and agreed with the driver to meet at a meeting point. However, the driver did not see Ms. Zheng later. On July 20th, the driver reported and handed in his luggage... On August 9th, the embassy informed Ms. Zheng's parents that the driver reported and handed in his luggage on July 20th.
The screenshot posted by this blogger on his friend's circle shows that his circle stopped on July 18th, and the shared content on that day was from Penjikent to Dushanbe, while the content posted on July 17th was positioned in Tajikistan.
On the morning of the 15th, the upstream news reporter contacted the blogger. The other party stated that she is a former colleague and good friend of Ms. Zheng, who is a particularly capable woman. After graduating from Peking University, she obtained a doctoral degree in Michigan, USA, and has been working for more than 10 years. She has always enjoyed traveling alone, knowing how to climb and dive, and has also been to the Everest campsite, Antarctica, and Mount Jogory. She has absolute rich experience. On July 18th, Ms. Zheng told her parents that she was going to the Pamir Plateau and the signal was not good, so they might not be able to contact her for 10 days. However, after 10 days, her parents found out that they couldn't find her. Now, there is no news from her friends. "She is very positive and 100% won't do anything foolish. There were no abnormalities before, and people are also very cautious. If there is an accident, such as falling into the water, there must be something special."
The blogger also said that his parents and two members of the rescue team were now ready to fly to Dushanbe. Due to the spread of information, he probably knew where his friend got off the bus, and probably fell into the water from an unsafe bridge. "Her parents didn't agree with everyone's donation, so we had to donate a small amount to pay for the air tickets and accommodation of the rescue workers." The blogger also shared Ms. Zheng's official account, which showed that there were more than 180 original articles, most of which were travel records. The latest one was a travel note from Penjikent to Dushanbe on July 18. The reporter sent a private message to this account, and as of the time of publication, we have not received a response yet.
Subsequently, the reporter also contacted the Chinese Embassy in Tajikistan, and the staff confirmed and replied that they had taken note of the matter and had been in contact with the parents of the person involved. Currently, the specific situation has been informed to their parents. The parents of the parties involved are aware of everything and it is inconvenient to disclose some information to the public.
Regarding the follow-up of this matter, the reporter will continue to pay attention.
