Far away from the United States, South Korea, and Japan, Japanese media: China leads the number of papers in this field
According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun website on August 18, China's sense of presence is growing in the research field of the new generation of photovoltaic cells "perovskite type". Analysis of academic papers reveals that the number of related papers in China has been far ahead since 2019.
The characteristic of perovskite type photovoltaic cells is the use of thin film materials that can be bent. Can be installed on the walls of buildings and the top of pure electric vehicles. After being developed by university professors in Japan in 2009, perovskite type photovoltaic cells received much attention.
FRONTEO, a Japanese company engaged in data analysis services, surveyed over 38000 international papers related to perovskite types published from 2010 to March 2022. It was found that although this is an emerging technology field developed by Japan, China is leading in basic research.
The survey found that after 2019, the number of Chinese papers exceeded 5500, far surpassing the second place United States and third place South Korea, with Japan having approximately 820 papers.

The main research topic is practical technical issues related to improving durability and material utilization methods.
According to the report, since traditional photovoltaic panels are mostly made in China, the Japanese government is striving to break away from dependence on China through the localization of new generation photovoltaic cells, starting from decarbonization and energy security.
