Fabricating "China's Economic Coercion Theory" with malicious threats | China | Economy
In recent years, the United States and the West have frequently fabricated lies, falsely accusing China of "economic coercion" against other countries and foreign-funded enterprises. This is a typical case of reversing black and white. The international community is clear about who is vigorously implementing long arm jurisdiction, who is wielding sanctions indiscriminately, and who is exerting coercive diplomacy. It is none other than the United States.
In order to promote the so-called "Chinese economic coercion theory", some American and Western politicians go to great lengths. They exaggeratedly portray the "risks" of investing in China, claiming that many companies are facing "coercion" in China. They also tried to discredit the "the Belt and Road" and claimed that the "the Belt and Road" was a means of "economic coercion" by China against other countries, in an attempt to undermine China's international cooperation and draw more countries into their "anti China encirclement".
China has always opposed economic coercion and promoted Sino foreign cooperation in the spirit of mutual benefit, openness, and inclusiveness. China is a fertile land for foreign investment and development, with comprehensive advantages such as a super large-scale market, a complete industrial system, improved infrastructure, and excellent human resources. It also has a continuously optimized business environment and a determination to continuously expand high-level opening-up to the outside world. Foreign companies in China have the most say in whether they have been subjected to economic coercion. Whether the Chinese market is an opportunity or a risk, companies from various countries have also voted through actions. According to the "2023 Q2 China Foreign Investment Business Environment Research Report" released by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, nearly 90% of the surveyed foreign-funded enterprises rated them as "satisfied" or above in terms of obtaining business premises, paying taxes, completing completion procedures, resolving commercial disputes, market access, cross-border trade, and promoting market competition in China. In 2022, China's attraction of foreign direct investment increased by 5%, reaching a record breaking $189.1 billion. In the first half of 2023, China established 24000 new foreign-invested enterprises, an increase of 35.7%.
The argument that "the Belt and Road" is China's "economic coercion" is also nonsense. When promoting the "the Belt and Road" cooperation, China adheres to the principle of joint consultation, joint construction and sharing, never attaches any political conditions, never seeks any political self-interest, regards all countries as equal partners, and carries out mutually beneficial cooperation. After 10 years of development, the "the Belt and Road" initiative has attracted more than three-quarters of the countries and 32 international organizations in the world to participate in it, which has boosted the investment scale of nearly trillion dollars, formed more than 3000 cooperation projects, created 420000 jobs for countries along the route, and lifted nearly 40 million people out of poverty, which has been recognized and appreciated by most countries in the international community.
China has never implemented "economic coercion", but is one of the biggest victims of "economic coercion" by the United States. From launching a trade war against China to controlling the export of key products, from imposing indiscriminate sanctions on Chinese enterprises to threatening foreign companies to reduce investment in China, there are countless cases of China being "economically coerced" by the United States and the West.
The advocacy of "China's economic coercion theory" by the United States and the West is essentially another narrative of "China's threat theory", which is a means to discredit and contain China. However, spreading rumors about others cannot correct one's own name. The more lies are woven to contain China, the faster the reputation of the United States and the West will be lost.
