Expert: Unscientific. Women ride high-speed trains for 15 yuan to buy "16500 year old" mineral water. Water age | Mineral water | Women
Recently, a woman in Shanghai spent 15 yuan on a high-speed rail to buy a bottle of plastic bottled mineral water with the words "water age 16500±150 years". Did she drink "antique water?
On June 12th, the customer service of the Everest Glacier Water Resources Co., Ltd. responded to Upstream News, saying, "Our water has a relatively long mineralization cycle. Every drop of water you drink now is from 16500 years ago." Mr. Guo from the Water Environment Department of the China Geological Survey, Ministry of Natural Resources, said, "I personally think this is unscientific. This is the apparent age of water, not absolute age."
Customer service: Every drop of water is from 16500 years ago
Recently, Ms. Zhang from Shanghai spent 15 yuan on the high-speed rail to buy a bottle of mineral water, and the package said "water age 16500 years". "It's like drinking antiques. It's only 15 yuan/bottle. It's not expensive." She posted words and pictures on the Internet, causing heated discussions among netizens. Some people feel that there is nothing wrong with it: "every water molecule is a relic of ancient times, no matter how it is killed, it is really nothing wrong with writing this way." Some people also questioned: "This is to fool consumers."

The upstream news reporter saw from the picture shown by Ms. Zhang that the brand of mineral water is "Everest Glacier", and the package reads "16500±150 years old" and "Everest water source irrigation package".
On June 12th, a reporter from Upstream News called the hotline of Everest Glacier Water Resources Co., Ltd. as a consumer, and customer service responded, "Our water comes from the glacier water of Everest. After settling underground, it undergoes a long mineralization process and surges to the surface through the spring at the foot of Everest. The water that comes out is about 16500 years old. Then, in order to facilitate storage and transportation, the raw water is sterilized and packaged. That is to say, every drop of water you drink now is from 16500 years ago."

Expert: Directly stating the age of water is not scientific
Judging the age of a tree mainly depends on its annual rings. In fact, water also has "growth rings".
According to a video report from Hebei Great Wall Network on April 22, 2022: "Water also has age, and radioactive isotopes are the annual rings of water. Among them, the carbon fourteen method measures the age of water in the range of 1,000 to 50,000 years. The water age experiment helps to understand the recycling and renewal capacity of groundwater and provides important parameter indicators for the sustainable development and utilization of groundwater."
So, what is the basis for the statement "every drop of water comes from 16500 years ago"? The customer service of Everest Glacier Company explained, "This number was calculated by a scientific expert group and is not particularly accurate. It was approximately 16500 years ago."
Regarding the customer service statement, the Upstream News reporter contacted Mr. Guo from the Water Environment Department of the China Geological Survey under the Ministry of Natural Resources. He told the company's promotion of "natural mineral water with a water age of 16500 ± 150 years" that Mr. Guo said, "Whether water is drunk healthily depends on the trace elements it contains. Personally, I believe that healthy water and the age of water are two different things. The age of water can only represent that it is relatively clean water, without some industrial pollution today."
