Expert: Prevention of heat stroke is crucial for limbs | Symptoms | Expert
Shenyang, July 20th (Xinhua) - "Three dog days" are a period of high temperature and easy to suffer from severe heat stroke, with heat stroke being one of the forms of severe heat stroke. What is heat stroke? What are the symptoms of illness? How to effectively prevent it? In response, the reporter interviewed Li Jingdong, Deputy Director of the Emergency Department of the Fourth People's Hospital of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province.
"Heat stroke is a dysfunction of the temperature regulation center caused by a high temperature and humidity environment, with typical clinical manifestations of high fever, consciousness disorders, and no sweating." Li Jingdong said that in addition to heat stroke, severe heat stroke also has two forms: heat spasm and heat failure.
It is understood that heat stroke is generally developed from premonitory heatstroke or mild heatstroke. If the patient has symptoms such as headache, dizziness, thirst, excessive sweating, and weakness in all limbs, and their body temperature is normal or slightly elevated, they will be transferred to a cool and ventilated place to cool down, supplement water and salt, and the symptoms will be relieved in a short period of time, which is a precursor to heatstroke; When the body temperature exceeds 38 ℃, accompanied by symptoms such as flushed complexion, excessive sweating, or damp and cold limbs, pale complexion, decreased blood pressure, and increased pulse, it is transferred to a cool and ventilated place to cool down, replenish water and salt, and recover within a few hours, which is a mild case of heatstroke.
"If premonitory or mild heatstroke is not treated in a timely manner, it may develop into heat stroke," said Li Jingdong.
Li Jingdong said that due to the fact that most people, especially outdoor physical workers and elderly people, do not have the ability to "adapt to heat" or have not received corresponding training, it is difficult to tolerate the temperature changes in high temperature and heat environments. "The most effective preventive measure is to avoid staying and exercising in high temperature, high humidity, and poorly ventilated environments for a long time. In summer, sufficient rest, water and salt supplementation should be taken, and chrysanthemums, honeysuckle, lotus leaves, peppermint, and patchouli can be soaked in water to clear heat and relieve heat."
Experts remind that heatstroke can be life-threatening. If anyone is suspected of having heatstroke, they should call the emergency hotline as soon as possible and quickly cool down before medical staff arrive. For example, use a damp towel or ice pack to compress the head, armpits, and thigh roots.
