Experience the Collision of History and Youth (Walking in Chengdu) Culture | Chengdu | Collision
During the Chengdu Universiade, Kuanzhai Alley became an "urban reception hall" showcasing Chengdu's history, culture, and modern life.
As an important cultural activity site for the Chengdu Universiade, Kuanzhai Alley is bustling with visitors. The East Square at one end of the alley, featuring the Universiade mascot "Rongbao" as its theme decoration, has attracted many tourists to take photos. The first official licensed smart retail experience store for the Chengdu Universiade is also located here. Entering Kuan Alley from the East Square, walking into a courtyard on the left side, the Sichuan Intangible Cultural Heritage Fine Art Exhibition "Encountering Tianfu" presents a brilliant presentation. "Shu Zhan", "Yue Jian", "Rhythmic Youth"... Through every blade of grass and vine, traditional Chinese weaving techniques such as bamboo weaving, palm weaving, and grass weaving that have been passed down for thousands of years are integrated with modern aesthetics, expressing the theme of the Universiade with innovative designs, unique shapes, and trendy artistic imagination.
The courtyard across the street integrates ethnic skills such as Shu embroidery and Qiang embroidery into fashionable life, interpreting the continuous development of traditional Chinese intangible cultural heritage in contemporary culture, with both practicality and artistry. In addition, intangible cultural heritage works created by local youth to welcome the Universiade were also exhibited, showcasing the everlasting and generational transmission of traditional Chinese culture.
Kuanzhai Alley is one of the three major historical and cultural protected areas in Chengdu, consisting of three parallel ancient streets. The wider one is called "Kuan Alley", the narrower one is called "Zhai Alley", and the one with a well is called "Jing Alley". The origin of Kuanzhai Alley can be traced back more than 300 years, and its architectural style combines the characteristics of Western Sichuan dwellings and northern quadrangle courtyards. Nowadays, there are many trendy cultural themed shops in the courtyard with blue bricks and black tiles in the alleys. Music festivals, tea parties, and other activities are often held here, becoming a window for people to perceive the historical imprint and urban fireworks atmosphere of Chengdu.
History and culture are the heritage of Chengdu, and youth and vitality signify its future. The large number of historical relics unearthed from the Jinsha Site confirm the long history of Chengdu Plain culture, and the crowded museum reflects the charm of Chinese civilization; Dujiangyan Irrigation Project Water Conservancy Project has operated for more than 2000 years, and its great influence continues to this day; The Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum, which has been renovated and expanded throughout history, houses the Thatched Cottage Academy and Library, and has now become a platform for young people to appreciate traditional culture and feel the fragrance of books
The Chengdu Universiade is also a collision of history and youth. At the opening ceremony, Sichuan Opera's face changing phalanx made its passionate debut with a cyberpunk style music rhythm; The construction of sports venues not only incorporates Chinese elements such as the image of the Sun God Bird in its appearance, but also combines the ventilation principles of traditional Chinese architecture with modern architectural concepts to help energy conservation and emission reduction; A millennium old historic city holds a youth festival, allowing young people from all over the world to gather their youthful energy for a better future of humanity through exchange and mutual learning.
Walking out of Kuanzhai Alley, passing by a tea house, the plaque reads "Tea Language of Ancient and Modern Times". I think visitors here, no matter where they come from, will have a vivid feeling of the integration of the past and present, and the continuation of the past and the future of the Chengdu Universiade.
