This is one of the videos that the police found from the suspect's mobile phone when the Sanchazi Forest Public Security Branch of the Forest Public Security Bureau of the Jilin Provincial Public Security Department recently investigated the killing of wild animals. In addition, there are videos of red deer being cut throat and bloodletting, digging badger holes to kill wild badgers, leopard cats and other videos in the mobile phone. These videos were originally used by suspect for fun, but they did not expect to become the iron evidence of their killing of wild animals.

"A piece of good meat" leads to a major illegal hunting case

Naerhong Town is located in the jurisdiction of Jingyu County, Baishan City, adjacent to the upper reaches of the Songhua River. It has beautiful scenery, high mountains and dense forests, and abundant wild animal resources. In addition, in recent years, relevant departments have increased their efforts to popularize laws, and local villagers have gradually strengthened their legal awareness of protecting wild animals. People often encounter large wild animals such as deer and roe deer in the forest.

"Although people's legal awareness of protecting wild animals has improved, there are still people who are willing to take risks to hunt wild animals," said Wang Hanyi, the director of the Naerhong Police Station. Previously, a major case of wild animal cruelty was solved due to a casual remark from an acquaintance.

"Zhang's family has a piece of 'good meat'..."

In early March of this year, Wang Hanyi heard this sentence while chatting with acquaintances. Due to professional sensitivity, Wang Hanyi felt that this matter was not simple.

"In our forest area, what people refer to as' good meat 'is not just pig, horse, beef, and mutton, but specifically wild animal meat." Wang Hanyi said and immediately arranged for police to understand Zhang's situation.

On March 3rd, Wang Hanyi reported the investigation situation to the Forest Case Investigation Brigade of Sanchazi Forest Public Security Sub bureau, and also reported to the leadership of the sub bureau's Party Committee. The leadership of the sub bureau's Party Committee attached great importance to it and assigned the Forest Investigation Brigade to cooperate with the Narhong Police Station to carry out investigation work,

The police summoned Zhang and found a piece of meat weighing over 10 pounds in Zhang's freezer. The meat was wrapped in a plastic bag with the words "good meat" written on it with a black carbon pen, along with some animal organs.

"That meat is wild roe deer meat, given by my friend Lv..." Zhang truthfully explained the source of "good meat".

The investigating police immediately learned about Lv's situation. Lv is from Beigou Village in Naerhong Town and has a significant influence in the village. He often fish on the Songhua River and his ancestors relied on hunting for a living.

"That night, we went to L ü's house to arrest him, but L ü, who heard the news, fled." Wang Hanyi said, and they immediately analyzed L ü's escape. They found out that his sister lived in Jingyu County. Through in-depth investigation, the police arrested him at L ü's sister's house at 10:00 on March 4th.

The police conducted a search of Lv's house, but the result did not disappoint everyone - more than 10 kilograms of roe deer meat were seized at Lv's house, along with a gun and 22 bullets.

After interrogation, Lv confessed some of the criminal facts. In January 2022, Lv captured two wild roe deer with hunting nets. In November 2022, he and his friends Li, Kan, and Tan went up the mountain to dig a badger hole and hunted one wild badger. In December 2022, one wild roe deer was hunted using a spring sleeve

"During the interrogation of Lv, he avoided the severity and did not explain the plot of his killing of wild animals. Instead, we discovered through the recovery of his mobile phone data that there were many small videos of him killing animals on his phone, which he used to show off and have fun with his friends," said Che Bin, the captain of the Forest Investigation Brigade.

According to Mr. Lv's explanation, the police soon captured the suspect Mr. Li, Mr. Kan and Mr. Tan one after another, and searched out the corresponding amount of wild animal meat and viscera in the freezer of the three families. The police also conducted data recovery on Lv's mobile phone, and soon a small video of killing wild animals was recovered. The shocking way of killing surprised the investigating police.

"This is a rare animal killing method in China, at least discovered for the first time in Jilin Province. It combines traditional hunting methods with beginners' skills, which is really cruel," said Ding Minghua, political commissar of Sanchazi Forest Public Security Bureau.

According to the instructions of the four people, they first used the most traditional hunting method - "catching sticks", which means gathering multiple people to find wild animals, and then using methods such as setting off firecrackers and shouting to surround large wild animals such as roe deer and red deer. Finally, they drove them into the Songhua River for flooding. At this time, Lv drove his own fast boat to chase the wild animals in the water. When the fast boat reached the vicinity of the animals, he used an electric fish to electrocute them, and then caught them on the boat for hunting

In the video materials provided by the police, a reporter from the Legal Daily saw a small video showing the bodies of five roe deer on board the ship, while several roe deer were desperately escaping in the turbulent river water; In another video, the head of an adult deer protrudes out of the boat, its throat is cut off, and blood stains the waters of the Songhua River

All criminal gangs involved in killing wild animals have been arrested

The police intensified the interrogation, and Lv and others truthfully explained that there were 14 suspect who committed crimes together or cross with them.

On March 5, Su Lvjiang, Deputy Director of Sanchazi Forest Public Security Branch, led the team, under the unified guidance and coordination of the command center, transferred 37 people from the forest investigation brigade, criminal investigation brigade and 7 local police stations in Youlin, established a 3.03 special case team, divided into 8 arrest teams, and rushed to Beigou Village at 3:00 a.m. on March 6 to carry out the arrest operation. Soon, the remaining 10 suspect were arrested one after another.

In the homes of these suspect, the police searched out a large number of slingshots, condoms and other tools for hunting wild animals, as well as roe deer meat, red deer head, viscera, badger oil, etc.

"The most shocking scene was when the police found the head of a red deer in the freezer of Li's house, with intact antlers and fur. Li said it was ready to be made into a specimen..." Wang Hanyi said.

In the face of the video evidence of killing wild animals in mobile phones, suspect gave up their resistance and truthfully confessed the facts of their involvement in hunting wild animals.

"We have cracked 14 cases of illegal hunting and 1 case of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, which is also the largest illegal hunting case we have cracked in recent years..." Jia Jisheng, the director of the Sanchazi Forest Public Security Bureau, said that the police have confirmed that this group of people killed wild animals, including 1 national second level protected animal, 1 red deer, 1 leopard cat, 1 badger and 14 roe deer, and confiscated 16 dead roe deer organizations, 1 red deer head, 1 bottle of badger oil, motors, fishing boats, and more than 10 tools for committing crimes

At present, the People's Procuratorate of Jiangyuan Forest District has completed the case, and the court will hear it in the near future, and these suspect who kill wild animals will eventually face severe punishment by law.
