EU or BRICS? Vucic said he may face a choice, BRICS | Serbia | Vucic
According to TASS, Serbian President Alexander Vucic stated on June 18th that Serbia may face a choice between the European Union and the BRICS countries in the future.
According to the report, Vucic was asked during his speech to the whole country whether Serbia may join the BRICS cooperation mechanism instead of the European Union. Regarding this, Vucic said, "Regarding the BRICS countries and the European Union, this is a very likely issue that our country will face in the future." He said, "As long as I remain president, Serbia will follow the European path, and my term is less than four years. Anyway, Serbia will adhere to the European path. Will we be accepted as a member of the European Union? Obviously not. Because they don't want us."
Vucic said, "This will become a problem faced by the new generation of Serbs in 10 or 20 years." He added, "It is clear that many countries want to break free from Western control."
The report mentioned that Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian President, stated earlier on the 18th that the topic of expanding the membership of BRICS countries will be included in the agenda of the BRICS leaders' meeting in August.
Peskov stated that multiple countries have announced their intention to join the BRICS in different ways, fully reflecting the international authority of this cooperation mechanism.
Peskov said, "The Russian Federation is satisfied that more and more countries are showing strong interest in this cooperation mechanism."
