According to Agence France Presse, on the 29th local time, the EU's High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Borrell, stated that the EU does not recognize the regime generated by the Niger military coup.
Borrelli stated in a statement that "the EU does not recognize or will not recognize the regime generated by the Niger coup," believing that Bazum remains the only leader of the country and calling for his immediate release.
Borrelli also stated that in addition to stopping budget aid, the EU will "indefinitely" suspend cooperation with Niger in the field of security.
According to previous reports, on the 26th, some soldiers of the Niger Presidential Guard detained the country's President Bazum. Late that night, representatives of the coup soldiers announced on Nepal's national television station the establishment of the National Committee for Defending the Motherland, overthrowing the Bazum regime and allowing the military regime to take over national affairs.
After the coup in Nepal, the United Nations, the Economic Community of West African States, and the African Union expressed condemnation and called for the release of Bazum as soon as possible. On the 28th, the United Nations Security Council issued a statement condemning the "illegal coup and detention", calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Bazum, and emphasizing the protection of the safety of Bazum, his family, and government members.
