"This flood has caused zero casualties in our village. As long as there are people, there is hope." On the morning of August 13th, Zhang Wenchun, Secretary of the Party Branch of Yudouquan Village in Fangshan District, Beijing, convened an early meeting to arrange for the implementation of tasks such as clearing obstacles and dredging, repairing houses, and distributing materials.
Yudouquan Village is located in the westernmost part of Puwa Township, Fangshan District, and is the westernmost administrative village in Beijing. The village form of "two mountains sandwiched by one ditch" caused serious losses to Yudouquan Village in this flood.
On the evening of July 31, rainstorm poured in. Although the villagers made some responses and preparations according to the warning, the water quickly plunged into the village along the mountain, causing many courtyard walls to collapse in an instant and the houses to be in danger. Upon seeing the situation, Zhang Wenchun led a few party members and cadres to rush to the rescue and said, "Ensuring the safety of the people is the most important thing. Follow me and be fast!"
Party members and cadres joined forces, moving with bare hands, shoveling with shovels, and working together to remove blocks of building materials that block water flow. "The blockage was opened, and the accumulated water poured down." Zhang Wenchun was hit by the water flow, fortunately holding onto the big tree next to him tightly. Although there are lingering fears, he said, "It is our responsibility to protect the safety of people's lives and property.".
The water is surging, and the shelter for villagers is urgently needed. As the flood poured into the resettlement site, Liu Fuzhan, a member of the village party branch organization stationed here, quickly called out, "My house is high and close to here, hurry to my house!" Before the resettlement site was destroyed, the villagers here were safely transferred to Liu Fuzhan's house.
"When the flood hit, 32 party members from the entire village charged forward, fully ensuring the safety of the villagers' lives and property," said Zhang Wenchun.
On the morning of August 2nd, a corner of the chicken shed in the chicken farm, which is the main source of income for the village collective economy, was washed down. Party member Wei Gonglin immediately took people to repair it. Although he was very tired, he stayed on site to prevent accidents from happening.
The flood caused a power outage in the village, resulting in a loss of communication with the outside world. After the rainstorm stopped, the party branch of Yudouquan Village quickly shifted its focus of work to restore production and living order.
"Before the rescue forces arrive, we need to rely on ourselves. We are closer to Hebei, so let's first open up the road to Hebei." After discussing with the village party members, they concentrated on using mechanical equipment for day and night construction, and finally opened up the way out. The road has been opened, and the village party branch has sent people to buy three generators for emergency use in the village, and has raised funds to ensure the basic livelihood of the villagers.
After several days of emergency repairs, the chicken farm has been preserved and the egg production of laying hens is stable. After the road was opened, the village party branch immediately sent hundreds of pounds of eggs to the neighboring village.
"Our eggs are in short supply here now," said Yang Chunying, a villager working at a chicken farm. "With the party branch taking the lead, I have confidence in rebuilding my home."
