Affected by the flood situation, some schools in the affected areas have been damaged to varying degrees. At present, it is the peak time for returning to school in the autumn. Recently, reporters have conducted in-depth interviews and learned that relevant regions are making every effort to carry out post disaster recovery and reconstruction, as well as education and teaching preparations. Beijing, Hebei, Jilin, Heilongjiang and other regions continue to promote various work such as borrowing sites for education, dredging and disinfection, environmental management, and maintenance of school buildings, ensuring the normal and safe start of the autumn semester.
Accelerate dredging, restore campuses, and borrow some school sites for education
On August 19th, the reporter arrived at Liuheying School in Douzhuang Town, Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province, and the staff were washing the playground; In the teaching building, the school staff and staff from Baoding Jingxiu School decorate the campus together.
"I hope that when the children start school, they can see a restored campus," said Zhai Junyong, the secretary of the school's party branch and principal. "The corresponding support from the Jingxiu District has been very helpful, and the Jingxiu School has also provided one-on-one assistance to us. The faculty and staff of both schools work together to ensure that the school starts as scheduled."
During the flood season, the first floor of the teaching building of Liuheying School was completely flooded, with the deepest point reaching about two meters. After the flood receded, the school mobilized teachers and staff to carry out self rescue, drainage and dredging. On August 16th, support personnel arranged by the Education and Sports Bureau, Procuratorate, Ecological Environment Bureau and other units of Jingxiu District arrived and brought equipment such as flushing trucks, forklifts, and cleaning vehicles, greatly accelerating the speed of campus cleaning. On the 25th, all campus restoration work was completed.
As the new semester approaches, schools in the disaster stricken areas of Hebei province are promoting flood prevention and disaster relief as well as campus safety management, and preparing for the start of the autumn semester. Schools that are not severely damaged are being repaired as soon as possible, and after being assessed as safe, they can resume classes as scheduled. But some schools are severely damaged, how can we ensure that they start as scheduled?
Affected by the flood, the teaching building, playground, guard room, toilet, boiler room, etc. of Yanming Central School in Linhe Township, Xian County, Cangzhou City have been damaged to varying degrees. The school wall has been damaged due to long-term soaking of the foundation, resulting in tilting and cracks. The ground of the guard room and playground have collapsed to varying degrees, and indoor tables and chairs, some computers and printers in the building cannot be used normally due to moisture.
After the water receded, the Education and Sports Bureau of Xian County immediately hired a professional team to assess the damage to the school building. After passing the assessment, a construction team was arranged to repair it. At present, the repair work has been completed and the school is scheduled to start on September 1st.
In Xinzhen Town, Wen'an County, Langfang City, six schools and kindergartens were affected by the disaster, involving a total of 669 students. After the flood, Wen'an County established an emergency support work leadership group for students starting school in the Dongdian Flood Storage and Detention Area. Based on the actual situation of the disaster, establish a dedicated work class to assess the disaster situation of students one by one, and coordinate efforts from all parties to solve difficulties.
To ensure that students are not allowed to drop out of school due to disasters, Wen'an County has formulated an enrollment and resettlement plan, and all affected students are properly resettled for their entire lives. In addition, 471 students from Bazhou City have also been properly resettled in Wen'an County.
The reporter learned from the Education Department of Hebei Province that for schools and students who do not currently have the conditions to start classes on their original sites, relevant cities and counties have been guided to implement the principle of "classified policies, one school, one case, and implementation on a per student basis", and ensure that all students from affected schools start classes on schedule through overall and dispersed arrangements. Among them, the relevant areas for students who have been resettled through cross city diversion have been connected, and for students who have been resettled through cross provincial diversion, coordination arrangements have been made between the provinces and cities where they currently reside.
Teachers returning to work to carry out teaching research and practical training, actively preparing lessons to welcome the new semester
As the school starts, the school sign of Heishan Primary School in Mentougou District, Beijing is hung at the entrance of the local Beijing Experimental High School. As one of the five schools in the district that have borrowed sites for education, teachers and students of Heishan Primary School will welcome a new semester at Beijing Experimental High School starting from September 1st. On August 27th, when the reporter walked into the campus, the new teaching building had already been decorated, and teachers from both schools were working together to prepare for the first lesson of the school year.
Affected by heavy rainfall, there were safety hazards at the original site of Heishan Primary School. Planning for borrowing the site for school operation began on August 6th. The Beijing Experimental High School, located only 500 meters away from Heishan Elementary School, has become the new home of Heishan Elementary School, freeing up 16 classrooms for use by 16 classes and 557 students.

Currently, teachers in various subjects are preparing for the start of the school year. "In the past few days, we have taken advantage of the opportunity of borrowing educational resources to carry out a nine-year consistent curriculum discussion and training. Through joint teaching and research, we have integrated the teaching staff and resources of the two schools, laying a solid foundation for collaborative education." said Mao Ying, Vice Principal of Heishan Primary School.
The Central Kindergarten Center Park in Liulihe Town, Fangshan District, is located adjacent to the Liulihe section of the Dashi River. Due to the low-lying terrain, the first floor of the comprehensive building and all classrooms in the backyard were soaked in water, and electronic equipment, teaching aids, and other equipment were severely damaged. During the reporter's interview, there were still traces of flooding on the high walls of the teaching building.
"We are comprehensively upgrading and renovating, and it is expected that the reconstruction project will be completed in November, and the kindergarten will open in the spring semester next year." Principal Wang Yongtao said that to ensure the smooth start of the new semester, the kindergarten will transfer 192 young children to two separate kindergartens.
According to the relevant person in charge of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, since the flood occurred, the two committees of education have been deeply involved in the disaster stricken areas for the first time. They have conducted research, comprehensive consultations, and precise measures on 275 affected schools, accelerating the cleaning and disinfection of school buildings, repairing and restoring campuses, and making arrangements for the placement and commuting of students. As of now, all the work of dredging and disinfection, house safety appraisal, etc. in the affected schools have been completed. Damaged facilities and equipment, as well as books and materials, have been basically purchased. Students who need to be resettled have been arranged to attend schools one by one, and all schools will start as scheduled.
After the start of the school year, some homeroom teachers from disaster stricken schools will lead students into water and ecological environment units to gain a deeper understanding of post disaster reconstruction work through practical activities. "At present, all preparations for the start of the new semester are ready, and teachers have planned a rich and colorful first lesson in combination with teaching and practical training, allowing students to start the new semester's learning and life with peace of mind." The person in charge said.
The education and teaching order in the areas where school has started has been restored, and the situation of returning to school is stable
On August 21st, which is the first day of the opening of primary and secondary schools in Jilin Province, various schools have carried out various activities based on their own characteristics. During the flood season, primary and secondary schools in some areas such as Shulan City and Yushu City suffered varying degrees of damage. However, with the joint efforts of all parties, some affected schools opened on the same day as the whole province.
"Does anyone want to come to the podium to do this question?" On August 29th, the reporter arrived at Shulan Qingsong Central School. In the classroom of Class 2, Grade 3, the homeroom teacher Sun Yixuan was explaining addition operations. In the new semester, all 334 students from this school have returned to school, and teaching work is proceeding normally and orderly.
However, just a few days ago, the school playground was covered in mud. The school organized teachers and staff to return to school ahead of schedule on August 14 to carry out dredging, infrastructure restoration, environmental disinfection and sterilization and other work on campus.
"Salute to the frontline flood control and rescue personnel, thank you all for caring and assisting the disaster area. Let's welcome a bright and sunny tomorrow together!" Third grade student He Xintong wrote her thoughts and experiences in her handwritten copy. After the start of the school year, in order to protect the psychological health of students after the disaster, Qingsong Central School fully utilizes the school's "spiritual relay station" and "spiritual oxygen bar" to actively guide students to establish positive and upward values.
"Cultivating the will of students to strive for self-improvement and self-reliance is an important topic in the new semester." Principal Zhan Yonggang said that in the past week, the school has opened a special course to showcase the process of emergency rescue and reconstruction from all parties, and encouraged students to build confidence and hope for the future.
In addition, the reporter learned from the Ministry of Education that many disaster stricken schools in Heilongjiang Province are accelerating their restoration and reconstruction. In Wuchang City, the post disaster maintenance and reconstruction of schools such as Chonghe Middle School and Erhe Township Middle School have been basically completed, and the two schools can basically ensure normal return to school in the autumn. In Hailin City, Mudanjiang, the local education department has formulated a post disaster recovery and reconstruction work plan, and all affected schools can start as scheduled.
