According to a report by Efi on June 12th, Iranian President Ibrahim Lehi confirmed during his official visit to Venezuela that Iran's economic and trade cooperation goal with this Caribbean country is to increase the current bilateral trade volume from approximately $3 billion to $20 billion.
According to reports, Venezuela is the first stop of Lech's first trip to Latin America during his tenure, followed by visits to Cuba and Nicaragua. Accompanied by a large delegation, including representatives from the political, economic, and scientific fields, was Lai Xi's visit.
The report also stated that during a meeting with President Maduro at the Mira Flores Palace in the Venezuelan Presidential Palace, Lech made it clear that "the first step towards our trade and economic cooperation goals is to raise their level to $10 billion, and in the next stage, to increase this number to $20 billion."
Lech emphasized that Iran and Venezuela have "cooperation in various fields" and "hope that the signed agreement can express and reflect the willingness of both sides to strengthen their relationship, so that these two developing and progressive countries can take more important steps in this relationship.".
Maduro expressed his hope to increase the frequency of flights between Caracas and Tehran, promote tourism between the two countries, and establish technology parks in all regions of Venezuela.
"I earnestly request the Iranian President to increasingly support the development of strong technological cooperation between us, and our scientists are working together," he added.
Maduro and Laixi have jointly signed over 20 agreements in the fields of petrochemicals, transportation, mining, etc., and hope to expand bilateral cooperation in the next 20 years.
According to the report, on the 11th, before departing from Tehran to Venezuela, Lech emphasized that the common position between Iran, Venezuela, and other countries he is about to visit is to "oppose hegemony and unilateralism.".
According to Iran's Maher news agency, Lehi defined Tehran's relationship with Caracas, Havana, and Managua as "strategic" and stated that this visit will mark a "turning point" in deepening relations with these countries.
The report points out that since the era of the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, the relationship between Tehran and Caracas has been very close and has continued to strengthen since then. Iran has become one of the main allies of the Maduro government in Venezuela in recent years, especially after Venezuela experienced a gasoline shortage in 2020 and Caracas went to Tehran to purchase fuel.
