CCTV News: Qinghai Province has a vast territory, abundant sunlight, and abundant hydropower resources. Relying on its unique natural resources, it has built the world's leading water and solar complementary power station - Longyangxia Water and Solar Complementary Power Station. The Longyangxia Water Photovoltaic Complementary Power Station consists of a photovoltaic power station and a hydroelectric power station. Through the "Water Photovoltaic Complementary" technology, it realizes the rapid compensation function of hydroelectric power and photovoltaic power generation, solves the problem of abandoned light and safe grid connection in photovoltaic power generation. How do water and light complement each other? Let's follow the journalist's camera and take a look together.
CCTV reporter Liu Zegeng: This is the Taratan Photovoltaic Power Generation Park in Gonghe County, Hainan Prefecture, Qinghai Province. The blue and black panels next to me are photovoltaic power generation panels. Rows of photovoltaic power generation panels are gathered in a row, continuously producing clean electricity. More than 50 kilometers away from here is the first large-scale cascade power station in the upper reaches of the Yellow River - the Longyangxia Hydropower Station. So why build a photovoltaic power station next to the Longyangxia Hydropower Station? Let's go to the central control room together to find the answer.

CCTV reporter Liu Zegeng: We are now in the central control room of the Longyangxia Water Light Complementary Photovoltaic Power Station, and the changing data on this screen is the real-time data of the photovoltaic power generation. Photovoltaic power generation has problems such as intermittency, volatility, and randomness. At night, the output of photovoltaic power plants is zero. In rainy weather, clouds block the sun, and the power generation capacity of photovoltaic power plants will rapidly decline. These factors can all cause the current generated by photovoltaic power generation to exhibit a sawtooth pattern, which not only impacts the power grid but also affects production and daily life due to unstable voltage. The Longyangxia hydropower station complements water and light, perfectly solving the problem of relying on nature for photovoltaic power generation.
Cao Jun, an engineer at the Industrial Park Project Department of the Hainan Branch of State Power Investment Corporation of China, said that "water solar complementarity" refers to the use of photovoltaic power generation when the sunlight is strong, and the cessation or reduction of hydropower generation. When the weather changes or at night, the power grid dispatch system can automatically adjust hydropower generation to reduce the impact of weather changes on photovoltaic power generation, thereby obtaining stable and reliable power sources.

A 330kV overhead line connects the "light energy" of Taratan and the "water energy" of Longyangxia. The total installed capacity of Longyangxia Water Photovoltaic Complementary Power Station is 2130 MW, including 850 MW of photovoltaic installed capacity and 1280 MW of Longyangxia Hydropower Station installed capacity. By complementing water and light, the annual utilization hours of the transmission lines at Longyangxia Hydropower Station have been increased from the original 4621 hours to 5019 hours, greatly improving the economic benefits of the transmission lines at the hydropower station.
Cao Jun, Engineer of the Industrial Park Project Department of the Hainan Branch of State Power Investment Corporation of China: The Longyangxia Water Photovoltaic Complementary Photovoltaic Power Station can generate 1.494 billion kilowatt hours of electricity per year, which corresponds to saving 464600 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1.2266 million tons in thermal power generation. It can be said that optoelectronics and hydropower have achieved perfect integration in Qinghai. Now Qinghai's clean energy is being exported across regions, and 15 provinces including Jiangsu and Beijing are using our produced clean electricity.
