CCTV News: The Chinese Crested Tern is a national first-class protected animal and one of the most rare migratory birds in the world. Currently, the global population is only about 150. During this period, observers observed 6 pairs of 12 breeding populations of the Chinese Crested Tern on the uninhabited island of Simu Island in Fujian, which is also the largest number of observations recorded in the local area. In the picture, these Chinese crested terns are resting on the shallow beach, foraging and playing with other terns.
According to observers, including these two, the breeding population of the Chinese Crested Tern observed on Simu Island this year has reached 6 pairs of 12, an increase of 5 from last year. It is reported that starting from April each year, the Chinese Crested Tern will come to its breeding ground to mate, build a nest, and prepare to lay eggs. It lays one egg per nest, and the incubation period is generally 20 to 28 days.
In 2018, observers observed the Chinese Crested Tern on Simu Island, and subsequently, relevant departments conducted island surveys, population conservation, and restoration actions here.
