Recently, it was learned from the Forestry and Grassland Bureau of Yunnan Province that this year, the yellow spine bamboo locust crossed the border from Bennu County and Fengshali County in Laos on June 18 and directly entered the Niuluo River Nature Reserve in Jiangcheng, Yunnan. Subsequently, on July 24, the migration scale reached its maximum. Some populations may migrate to Mengla County in Xishuangbanna Prefecture and Luchun County in Honghe Prefecture. As of August 17th, 3004.5 acres of forest land in Yunnan Province have been damaged to varying degrees by the yellow spine bamboo locust, with the main degree of damage being mild and not yet a disaster. Recently, the Forestry and Grassland Bureau of Yunnan Province, together with the Forestry and Grassland Bureau of Pu'er City and the Forestry and Grassland Bureau of Jiangcheng County, dispatched a working group to conduct an on-site investigation of the yellow spine bamboo locust situation in Fengshali Province, Laos. The working group analyzed that the probability of the migration and entry of yellow spine bamboo locusts in 2023 exceeding the scale in 2021 and 2022 is higher, and the probability of exceeding the scale in 2020 is lower. The probability of continuous and multiple batches of migration and entry on medium and small scales is higher.
Yellow spine bamboo locust is a type of insect belonging to the family Acridae and genus Acridae, commonly known as bamboo locust or locust. It occurs once a year, overwintering with eggs. The overwintering eggs begin to hatch in May, with a nymph period of 55-57 days. The adult stage begins in July, and the spawning period is in mid August. Their generation consists of only three stages: egg, nymph, and adult. nymphs have no wings and mainly rely on jumping for activity, known as hoppers. In July 2020, there was a yellow spine bamboo locust invasion in Pu'er City, Yunnan Province, with a cumulative area of nearly 100000 acres. Due to the astonishing migration speed and strong destructive power of the yellow spine bamboo locust, if the locust situation is not controlled, it will lead to serious crop damage, agricultural yield reduction, and other problems. In order to effectively carry out prevention and control from the source, Jiangcheng County, Yunnan Province will dispatch professional personnel, work vehicles, and other personnel to carry out joint deployment in Fengshali Province, Laos starting from June 12th. Insist on moving forward, organize the team to enter Laos to carry out locust disinfection and sterilization, and organize multiple forces to use drones and manual spraying disinfection and sterilization. At present, the inbound yellow spine bamboo locust has been timely and effectively controlled.
