The reporter learned from the Water Resources Department of Hebei Province that due to insufficient precipitation and high temperatures, there have been varying degrees of drought in the central and northern regions of Hebei. At present, the drought affected area of crops in Hebei Province is 10.65 million mu, and a Level IV emergency response for drought prevention has been initiated.
Since the beginning of this year, the average precipitation in Hebei Province has been 123.2 millimeters, which is 13% lower than the same period of the year. Especially in June, the average precipitation in the province was only 29 millimeters, which is 60% lower than the same period of the year, making it the youngest precipitation since 1956. In response to the current drought situation, the Water Resources Department of Hebei Province has initiated a Level IV emergency response for drought prevention.

Various regions in Hebei actively strive for ecological water replenishment in the middle line of the South to North Water Diversion Project, make every effort to maintain and repair existing water conservancy facilities, improve the integrity rate of various facilities, reasonably allocate water sources based on drought conditions, water source conditions, and water supply capacity of water conservancy facilities, expand irrigation area, and irrigate 17.64 million mu of drought resistant land to minimize disaster losses.

The reporter learned from the Water Resources Bureau of Baoding City that from June 1st to July 1st this year, the average rainfall in Baoding City was more than 70% less than the same period of the year. Due to the continuous sunny, hot, and rainy weather, irrigated areas showed partial drought, while dry areas showed a sustained drought trend. The overall drought situation was moderate or above.
Zhang Sheng, Director of the Water Resources Bureau of Baoding City, stated that in order to fully guarantee the demand for water for people's daily life and production, and minimize the losses caused by drought, the Baoding City Water Resources Bureau has convened some experts in water and drought disasters to analyze and judge the drought situation, conduct statistical analysis of the city's drought situation, accurately grasp the dynamics of drought situation, and scientifically guide various regions to do a good job in drought resistance and disaster reduction. Since the beginning of this year, large-scale reservoirs such as Wangkuai, Xidayang, and Angezhuang have been used to release water to downstream rivers, implementing ecological replenishment of 29.9223 million cubic meters and ensuring agricultural water use of 92.4507 million cubic meters.
