Dominic Ambassador to China Martin Charles: bought tea in Xinjiang in the hope of bringing longevity and good luck to the locals | Martin Charles | longevity
On August 8th, Kashgar, China Central Radio Network reported that "the scenery is extremely beautiful, and the locals are also very enthusiastic." This is the lament of Dominic Ambassador to China Martin Charles after his first trip to Xinjiang.
From July 31st to August 4th, envoys from over 20 countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America visited Xinjiang. They went to places such as Kashgar, Kuqa, and Urumqi to visit ancient cities, mosques, and plum orchards, and had face-to-face exchanges with local people to gain an on-site understanding of Xinjiang's social development, ethnic and religious cultural protection, and people's living conditions.
"We often say that since you have eyes, you need to see it with your own eyes," Martin Charles excitedly shared his observations of the past 5 days with a reporter from China National Radio and Television. Martin Charles left a deep impression on Kashgar from the moment he arrived. "We came to the hometown of longevity, visited the ancient city of Kashgar, and bought tea from the Uyghur medicine Bazar, hoping to bring longevity and good luck," he said.

"People are all living very happily and happily," Martin Charles shared. In fact, this is his first time coming to Xinjiang. He had several opportunities to go to southern Xinjiang before, but due to personal conflicts, he did not make it, so this time it did leave a very deep impression on him.
This includes everyone being able to enter restaurants to taste delicious food, conveniently make payments on their mobile phones, and buy what they want online... "I truly enjoy life, so that's why I like China or Xinjiang." He looks forward to more interaction with local people, a better understanding of the diverse culture and local cuisine. I hope to spread my genuine feelings to every corner of the world and showcase the positive image of Xinjiang to the world.
Martin Charles cherished the opportunity to visit Xinjiang very much. He told reporters that he had traveled from Thailand to Guangzhou a few days ago, and then to Beijing. Although his flight was delayed due to rain, he still made up his mind to come, "because I can't miss this opportunity to come to Xinjiang.".
Martin Charles stated that Dominica and China are good friends, and seeing is better than hearing. Some people spread lies internationally, which has led to misunderstandings about Xinjiang.
He said that this time we had the opportunity to come to Xinjiang and see and feel it firsthand, which proves that the Xinjiang reported by the West is not true. Here, we walk among the crowd and talk to the people here. I call on more people, especially friends from the West, to personally come to Xinjiang to experience.

"There is something special about Xinjiang that I like."
"This is my first time visiting Kashgar, Xinjiang, and I was very shocked and surprised by what I saw and heard," said Martin Charles. Interacting and communicating with people on the street made me realize that the people here are very happy and willing to take photos with foreigners.
Martin Charles, along with other envoys, also saw the development and vitality of Xinjiang in the Kashgar Comprehensive Bonded Zone and Urumqi International Land Port Area. Whether it is the urban and rural safe drinking water project that solves the problem of 460000 people's drinking water safety, or the agricultural efficient water-saving pilot income increase project, they all feel the government's efforts and determination to continuously improve the lives of the people.
What impressed Martin Charles even more was that "in such a short period of time, so many people have emerged from extreme poverty, gained jobs, earned money, improved people's lives, provided them with appropriate housing, and become the people they want to be." He said.
Martin Charles went to many provinces in China, and in his opinion, there is something special about Xinjiang that he likes. "When I see how Xinjiang used to be and how it has undergone many years of transformation today, people's witness to life can feel that their lives have become better."
