Discussing the restoration of diplomatic institutions, Iraqi media: The Egyptian Iranian delegation plans to meet with the Egyptian Iranian delegation in the near future
On July 3rd local time, according to Iraqi media reports, the delegations of Egypt and Iran plan to meet in Iraq in the near future to discuss the restoration of diplomatic representation between the two countries.
On May 14th, Maliki, a member of the National Security Committee of the Iranian Parliament, stated that Iran and Egypt would reopen their embassies to each other in the near future, and a meeting between the Iranian and Egyptian presidents would be arranged thereafter.
Iran erupted the Islamic Revolution in 1979, overthrowing the Pahlavi dynasty. In the same year, Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel and provided political asylum to Iran's exiled king, and Iran immediately announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Egypt. The two countries have not yet resumed diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level, but have only established interest representative offices in each other's countries to handle diplomatic affairs on behalf of each other.
