Staff from the Huanghua Museum in Hebei Province recently discovered a remnant monument of the Bixia Yuanjun Temple from the Ming Dynasty's Chenghua period at an ancient city ruins in Qianjie Village, Yangerzhuang Town. Experts say this has important value for studying the ancient northern sea worship culture.
Remnants of Ming Dynasty Bixia Yuanjun Temple Stele Discovered in Huanghua, Hebei Province
It is understood that this remnant monument is 1.75 meters long, 0.4 meters wide, and 0.25 meters thick. According to the remaining inscriptions, the stone tablet was made in the 21st year of the Chenghua reign of the Ming Dynasty and was erected by the local government for the construction of the Heavenly Immortal Jade Maiden Bixia Yuanjun Temple. Among them, the inscription "Kitchen people make a living by cooking" confirms the authenticity of the people in the Yangerzhuang area who make a living by boiling salt, as recorded in the Longqing edition of the "Changlu Salt Law Annals" in the Ming Dynasty.

The Remaining Stele Inscription of the Ming Dynasty Bixia Yuanjun Temple Discovered in Huanghua, Hebei Province
The person in charge of the Huanghua Museum introduced that during the Ming and Qing dynasties, there was a folk saying that "Northern Yuan Jun, Southern Mazu". Huanghua is located in the coastal area of Bohai Sea, with a long history of salt boiling and sea worship culture. The Bixia Yuanjun Temple is a representative material carrier of sea worship culture in the north. The discovered stone tablet has important value for studying ancient northern sea worship culture.
