Did it snow in the central urban area of Chongqing yesterday? Meteorological experts have something to say in white | Video | Meteorology
On August 17th, the weather in Chongqing was hot, and some areas of the central urban area began to rain. However, several Chongqing residents reported that around 5 pm, near Jiangbei Mouth in Jiangbei District, the weather was unusually snowy.
The reporter checked the relevant video online for the first time: There are indeed small white particles falling from the sky above the Jiangbei Zui Lifan Center, but they are not as floating and scattered as snowflakes.
A Chongqing citizen posted a short video claiming that "snow" has fallen on the mouth of Jiangbei
Mr. Nie, who works at the Jiangbei Zui Guojin Center, said, "In the afternoon, there was no snow in Jiangbei Zui. I didn't see snowflakes, it felt like it was raining heavily!"
What exactly fell over Jiangbei Mouth around 5 pm that afternoon? An expert from the Chongqing Meteorological Observatory told reporters, "According to the analysis of the shape of the white object falling from the sky in the video, it should be graupel, also known as soft hail. It is normal for hail to occur in summer. Due to the hot weather and good thermal conditions, thermal convection is prone to occur. When the convective cloud cluster reaches a certain height, the water vapor in the cloud cluster condenses into ice droplets when it cools, forming hail. The graupel appearing in this area is formed by melting due to the high temperature during the process of hail descent."
