Desiring to work in a bar, UK Secretary of Defense resigns
According to Sky News, on the 31st local time, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace submitted his resignation to British Prime Minister Sunak, resigning from his position as Secretary of Defense.
According to reports, Wallace wrote in an official letter to Sunak, "July is my fourth year as Secretary of Defense... After careful consideration, I have decided to request resignation... After so many years, now is the time for me to focus on the parts of life that I once overlooked and explore new opportunities."
Meanwhile, in his official resignation letter, Wallace once again called on the government not to turn to defense to reduce spending. "I know you agree with my point of view. We must not go back to the era where defense was seen as government discretionary spending, achieved through hollowing out to save."
After former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson took office, Wallace was appointed as the head of the UK's defense agency in 2019.
In an interview with The Times in July, Wallace confirmed his intention to resign in the fall and withdraw from politics as part of the planned restructuring of the British cabinet. He has expressed that after resigning from his position as Minister of Defense, he hopes to return to a life outside of politics and defense, and is happy to work in a bar.
It is understood that Wallace is 53 years old and a close ally of former British Prime Minister Johnson. Meanwhile, he is also the longest serving Conservative Defense Minister.
