Defense Secretary Li Shangfu Meets with Former US Secretary of State Kissinger in Beijing, China | Two Countries | United States
On July 18th, State Councilor and Minister of Defense Li Shangfu met with visiting former US Secretary of State Kissinger in Beijing.
Li Shangfu said that today's world is intertwined with turmoil, and the century long changes are accelerating, posing unprecedented challenges to human society. People of all countries hope that China and the United States can shoulder the responsibility of great powers, play a leading role, and jointly maintain world prosperity and stability. The path of peaceful development that China has taken is a blessing for the world, not a disaster for the world. The United States should make a correct strategic judgment. The peaceful coexistence and integrated development of emerging and developed countries will lead to a better future for our world.
Li Shangfu said that some people from the United States have not aligned with China, resulting in a low point in Sino US relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations. The reality of interdependence between the two countries has been ignored, the history of win-win cooperation has been distorted, and the atmosphere of friendly communication has been disrupted. We are always committed to building a stable, predictable, and constructive relationship between China and the United States. We hope that the United States and China can work together to implement the consensus of the two heads of state and jointly promote the healthy and stable development of the military relationship between the two countries.
Kissinger said that I am visiting as a friend of China. In today's world, challenges and opportunities coexist, and both the United States and China should eliminate misunderstandings, coexist peacefully, and avoid confrontation. History and practice have continuously proven that neither the United States nor China can afford to treat each other as opponents. If there is a war between the two countries, it will not bring any meaningful results to the people of both countries. Understanding and handling the US China relationship well, especially reversing the current difficult situation, requires broad thinking and historical and philosophical thinking. Both sides need to come up with wisdom, cooperate and develop together. The two armies should strengthen communication, do their best to create positive results for the development of the bilateral relationship, and maintain world peace and stability.
On the same day, Li Shangfu also met with the visiting Chief of Staff of the Bangladesh Air Force, Hannan.
