Deeply understanding the modernization of the harmonious coexistence of man and nature from the historical, theoretical and practical dimensions is of great significance for grasping the connotation of Chinese path to modernization, planning and promoting the ecological environment protection work of the new journey with a higher position, a broader vision and greater efforts, and writing a new chapter in the construction of ecological civilization in the new era.

From the historical perspective, the relationship between man and nature, as the most basic relationship of human society, is a problem that CPC must face and solve in the process of exploring Chinese path to modernization. In the modernization process of seeking happiness for the people and rejuvenation for the nation, our party adheres to the guidance of the Marxist concept of the relationship between humans and nature, inherits the ecological cultural resources of excellent traditional Chinese culture, and integrates the protection of the ecological environment into the practical exploration process of modernization construction. While developing the economy, we also pay attention to protecting the ecological environment, promoting the continuous effectiveness of ecological environment protection and governance in China, and providing valuable experience for the construction of a modernization of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
After the founding of New China, the CPC led the people of the whole country to attach great importance to river governance, afforestation and greening under the grand goal of realizing the "four modernizations". Comrade Mao Zedong issued a great call for "greening the motherland", proposing to "make all the rivers and mountains of our country green, achieve landscaping, everywhere beautiful, and change the natural landscape". After the reform and opening up, our party has established environmental protection as a basic national policy and increasingly attached importance to the construction of the ecological environment protection system. Comrade Deng Xiaoping pointed out that afforestation and greening of the motherland are great undertakings for building socialism and benefiting future generations. The Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China, promulgated in 1979, fills the legal gap in the field of ecological environment in China and promotes the legalization of ecological environment protection work. With the continuous deepening of reform and opening up, achieving sustainable development has become an important part of modernization construction. Our party emphasizes that "population, resources, and environmental work should be effectively integrated into the track of legal governance", and clarifies in the criminal law that damage to the ecological environment must be punished by law, continuously revising and improving China's ecological legislation. The 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed that the construction of a resource-saving and environmentally friendly society must be placed in a prominent position in the industrialization and modernization development strategy, and that the harmonious development of human and nature and the construction of a resource-saving and environmentally friendly society should be included in the Party Constitution.
Our party has incorporated the construction of ecological civilization into the overall layout of the "Five in One" and the "Four Comprehensive" strategic layout of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the modernization of harmonious coexistence between man and nature into the overall layout of Chinese path to modernization, the construction of a beautiful China as an important goal of building a socialist modern country in an all-round way, adhered to the concept of system, scientifically laid out major projects for the protection and restoration of important national ecosystems, and built a system of nature reserves with national parks as the main body, setting a new benchmark of ecological civilization for modern development.

From the theoretical dimension, the modernization of harmonious coexistence between man and nature is the theoretical achievement of the combination of the basic principles of Marxism with China's specific reality and the excellent traditional Chinese culture. It profoundly reveals the dialectical unity relationship between man and nature, enriches and develops the Marxist view of nature, endows the traditional Chinese ecological culture with new era connotation, opens up a new realm for the development of Marxist theory in the 21st century, and provides a strong ideological force for us to build the ecological foundation of Chinese path to modernization.
Nature is the mother of life and the foundation of civilization, and humans and nature are interdependent entities. The natural world has objective reality and its primacy towards human society, and humans have a dependence on the natural world. Marx pointed out that "without the natural world, without the intuitive external world, workers cannot create anything.". However, with the rampant development and utilization of nature in capitalist society, the relationship between humans and nature has shifted from unity to opposition, leading to the depletion of natural resources and serious ecological problems. Marx deeply criticized the opposition between humans and nature in capitalist society, proposing to achieve the return of human essence through the transformation of social systems.
The modernization of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature is a theoretical sublimation of ecological ethics in traditional Chinese culture. The Chinese nation has always respected and loved nature. The ecological wisdom of China's excellent traditional culture is vast, profound, and has a long history. The Chinese civilization, which has lasted for more than 5000 years, has nurtured rich ecological cultural resources and ecological protection ideas. The simple and wise view of nature contained in it still provides profound inspiration to people today.

From a practical perspective, the modernization of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature is a practical choice that transcends the traditional Western modernization model. History has proven that the modernization of capitalist society with capital as its core has brought serious ecological crises and social problems. The Western modernization model is not universal and difficult to solve the ecological problems faced by humanity.
The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that "we adhere to the concept that green mountains and clear waters are as valuable as gold and silver, adhere to the integrated protection and systematic governance of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasses, and sands, strengthen ecological environment protection in all aspects, regions, and processes, improve the system of ecological civilization, advance pollution prevention and control in depth, take solid steps towards green, circular, and low-carbon development, and make historic, turning, and global changes in ecological environment protection.". The value concept of harmonious coexistence between man and nature runs through the whole process of socialist modernization. Chinese path to modernization has expanded the road choice of developing countries to modernization, and contributed Chinese wisdom and Chinese solutions to global ecological governance.
