Cuba strongly condemns: this is interference and defamation! European Parliament | Congress | Cuba
According to a report by Efi News Agency, the National People's Congress of the Cuban legislative body strongly condemned a non binding resolution passed by the European Parliament the day before on July 12th. The resolution urges Cuba to release those arrested in anti-government protests on July 11, 2021.
According to reports, the International Relations Committee of the National People's Congress of Cuba believes that the European Parliament "lacks moral, political, and legal authority to judge Cuba" and calls the resolution interference and defamation against Cuba.
The National People's Congress stated that the resolution "is an attack on EU companies that have invested or intend to invest in Cuba, and reflects the intention of the far right and related political forces to deprive the EU of independence in its policy towards Cuba.".
According to reports, the Cuban legislative body has stated that civil society, conservative, and liberal groups that support this non binding resolution have lied about the relationship between the European Union and Cuba. The legislative body emphasizes that Cuba maintains a "positive attitude" in areas such as cooperation with the European Union.
The report points out that the resolution passed by the European Parliament is an assessment of the status of EU Cuba relations and the visit of EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Josep Borelli, to Cuba in May this year.
