Create a warm learning space for them, with a one square meter desk
A brand new desk, an eye protecting desk lamp, and a dozen or so extracurricular books neatly arranged on the bookshelf... This summer, for Xiao Song, who lives in Laogang Town, it's a bit special. She finally has her own unique learning space. These days, as the start of school approaches, she has spent more time studying and reading at her desk than usual.
This is mainly thanks to the help of the "One Square meter Desk" project. "One square meter desk" is a learning space micro renovation project launched by Laogang Town for three consecutive years aimed at young people with family difficulties. By providing government funding and integrating resources from various sectors of society, we aim to provide children with learning materials such as desks, chairs, and backpacks, creating a "one square learning corner" for them.
Tailored to create an exclusive and warm learning space
Xiao Song's mother passed away when she was very young. Her father worked outside all year round, and she lived with her elderly grandparents. After learning about Xiao Song's situation, Lu Siwen, the person in charge of social assistance in Laogang Town, Pudong New Area, and others included him as a target of assistance for the "one square meter desk" and sent the desk and other learning items to the door.
In Xiao Song's bedroom, the desktop of this large desk with four shelves is spotless. Xiao Song told the desk that it is also equipped with a desk lamp, chair, etc., which is just the right size for use and not too large in space. This effort comes from personalized customization after door-to-door inspection. Lu Siwen pointed to the menu in his hand and introduced that since 3 years ago, Laogang Town has been conducting on-site visits through third-party assistance consultants hired by the jurisdiction every year, selecting 20 households from 11 village residences with family difficulties and children's learning space needs for renovation. In order to meet the diverse needs of families in need, the reception center and third-party decoration companies have jointly discussed and developed a "Learning Environment Micro Transformation Assistance Procurement Catalog". Students and parents in need will jointly select their desired learning supplies according to their needs. In addition, you can also choose small household appliances such as small heaters and electric fans, which can bring warmth to children in winter and coolness in summer.
In Lu Siwen's view, although the "one square meter desk" is only a small space renovation, it has stimulated children's strong motivation to strive for self-improvement and change their destiny, and also brought hope to the entire family.
Extend services to escort physical and mental growth
In order to benefit more children, this year, the government of Laogang Town will increase the support funds to 300000 yuan, expand the number of assisted families to 50, and expand the scope of assistance from 16 to 18 years old, covering high school adolescents. At the same time, more options have been added to meet the needs of different age groups.
This summer, the "One Square meter Desk" project launched an extension activity. The caring and growth service provided by the third class of the 20th grade EMBA at Fudan University, the Green Sprout Reading Club, not only provides children with study corner books, but also regularly invites them to participate in various reading activities. In the future, the "one square meter desk" will also provide more learning space renovation plans, parent-child communication guidance, homework guidance and other services that are helpful for children. Recruit more college student volunteers to bring these children the tangible help they need more.
Lu Siwen told reporters that nowadays, the forms and connotations of assistance are constantly expanding, from the original focus on material assistance to ideological and psychological assistance. These activities have also become effective carriers of help, allowing children to open their hearts and gradually integrate into the warm atmosphere of society. This is also the original intention of the "one square meter desk" assistance project in Laogang Town, injecting a warm growth background into children, igniting their longing for a bright future, inspiring them to establish lofty ideals and beliefs of independence, confidence, and self-improvement, and striving to create a better life.
Love, keep spreading! The story of "one square meter desk" continues
