Haoyuan Village is located at the foot of Helan Mountain, with a lush vineyard that stretches north and south along the mountain, beyond reach.

The eastern foothills of Helan Mountain are located at around 38 degrees north latitude, with abundant sunshine, large temperature difference between day and night, and soil rich in minerals. The unique terroir conditions here make the aroma, pigment, and sugar acidity of grapes excellent, making it one of the most suitable "golden zones" for planting high-quality wine grapes and brewing high-end grape wine in the industry.

Xixia District of Yinchuan City is located in the core area of the grape industry belt at the eastern foot of Helan Mountain. By optimizing land supply, the local government vigorously promotes the intensive development of grape cultivation, greatly improving the quality of wine. At the same time, it adheres to the strategy of integrating the grape industry with cultural tourism, driving farmers to integrate into the industrial and supply chains, and achieving the goal of increasing income. In the vineyard of Haoyuan Village, Zhenbeibao Town, Xixia District, 60 year old Gong Youfa and his villagers are busy wiping the buds. String of small grapes, carrying the hope of increasing income and becoming rich.

More than 20 years ago, Haoyuan Village was still a wasteland with large pits left behind after sand and gravel mining. In 2011, Ningxia proposed to vigorously develop the wine industry, and local residents began planting wine grapes in sandy and gravel fields.

After years of development, Haoyuan Village has built 19 wineries, planted 18000 acres of wine grapes, and produced 6000 tons of wine annually. The output value in 2022 exceeded 400 million yuan. The once barren land has now become a lush and prosperous place.

"More than 1200 villagers work in the winery, accounting for more than 70% of the village's labor force. The income of each household in Haoyuan Village is related to grapes. Grapes have created industries and landscapes; they not only protect the green mountains and waters, but also realize the villagers' dreams of green and prosperity," said Zhe Xiujun.

The rapidly developing wine industry not only transforms villagers into industrial workers at their doorstep, but also attracts a large number of young people to return. Their return has injected momentum and vitality into the countryside.

Qiao Jing, who grew up at the foot of Helan Mountain since childhood, once chose to leave her hometown and head south to Shenzhen to "see the outside world" in order to escape the desert where the wind blew rocks. After wandering around for 10 years, Qiao Jing had a stable job and satisfactory income, but even so, she still lacked a sense of belonging in her heart. When she went home to visit her family, she was moved to see the booming wine industry and more and more young people returning to their hometowns for employment and entrepreneurship. "Being close to home, having a good environment, and having a decent income, especially now that we have a family, we can balance the elderly, children, family, and career while having a stable income. I think this is the life I want," she admitted.

Now, Qiao Jing is the reception manager of a local winery, leading a team of 15 people to promote and popularize wine culture for tourists from all over the country every day, introducing the renowned "Purple Dream" of the eastern foothills of Helan.

The increasing number of tourists not only brings popularity to the winery, but also enables the development of homestays in surrounding villages. "There are many wineries, tourists, and opportunities, so I opened a homestay in my own courtyard with a try and see attitude. I didn't expect it to be quite popular," said villager Chang Yan, who runs the homestay.

Farmers who have become wealthy by growing grapes and brewing wine have tasted the sweetness of developing homestay tourism.

Nowadays, Haoyuan Village has created a Ningxia homestay development brand that integrates wine tasting, rural tourism, folk culture, ecological sightseeing, agricultural experience, and characteristic homestays. It has driven more than 500 villagers in the surrounding area to work at their doorstep, and the comprehensive tourism income in 2022 has exceeded 5 million yuan.

Haoyuan Village is a microcosm of Xixia District's promotion of rural revitalization through the integration of wine and tourism. At present, the planting area of wine grapes in Xixia District exceeds 40000 acres, and 28 wineries have been built, producing over 20 million bottles of wine annually. Grape planting, processing and other upstream and downstream enterprises have attracted more than 18000 surrounding farmers for employment, with an annual per capita income of over 40000 yuan for employed farmers.

Relying on the wine grape base, winery cluster, and historical and cultural resources along the eastern foothills of Helan Mountain, Xixia District has developed wine sightseeing experience factories, winery boutique homestays, and other products guided by market demand. It has linked 28 characteristic wineries and 57 boutique homestays, launched tourism routes for wine production areas, and promoted the deep integration of "wine+cultural tourism".

Wine cultural tourism has enriched the various ways in which wineries can be opened, revitalizing the industry. Chen Jingbao, Deputy District Mayor of Xixia District, Yinchuan City, told reporters that based on the brand of "Drunken and Beautiful Xixia District at the foot of Helan Mountain", Xixia District adheres to the strategy of integrating the wine industry and cultural tourism, creating new tourism landmarks in all industries such as "Cooking Wine Slowly" food blocks and Manpu Music Base. With the help of models such as "winery+scenic spots" and "event+tourism", more than 20 brand activities such as red wine music festivals, grape culture and art festivals, and red wine marathons have been held. As of the end of 2022, Xixia District has achieved an annual comprehensive tourism income of 5.82 billion yuan, and the average tourism operating income of families participating in the wine industry in 2022 has reached 45000 yuan.
