The report comprehensively reviewed the main measures and progress made by China and its partners in promoting the implementation of the Global Development Initiative since its inception. It also made suggestions on strengthening cooperation on the initiative and promoting the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Several Chinese and foreign figures highly praised the progress of implementing the global development initiative, believing that practical cooperation in the initiative effectively enhances the well-being of people in developing countries, especially those in the Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative. They expressed their belief that the initiative will help the United Nations achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as scheduled.
On September 21, 2021, President Xi Jinping put forward the global development initiative at the general debate of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, calling on the international community to attach importance to development issues and accelerate the implementation of the United Nations 2030 agenda for sustainable development. In June 2022, President Xi Jinping presided over the high-level dialogue on global development, further proposed to create a development pattern of inclusive balance, coordination and inclusiveness, win-win cooperation and common prosperity, and announced a series of practical measures on the implementation of the global development initiative, pointing out the direction for the promotion of the initiative, marking that the initiative has entered a new stage of practical cooperation.
Half of the 32 practical measures in the "List of Achievements of the Global Development High Level Dialogue" have been implemented or achieved early results, the total number of practical cooperation projects in the global development initiative project library has exceeded 100, and the Chinese government has arranged 1000 human resource development cooperation projects in the past year... The report summarizes the important measures and progress of the initiative over the past year.
Zhao Changwen, Director of the China International Development Knowledge Center, stated that the report released this time is the first progress report on global development initiatives. I hope to further promote the consensus of the international community to deepen mutual development, pay attention to the difficulties faced by developing countries, and take action as soon as possible to jointly promote the timely achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals by all countries, especially developing countries, and enhance the well-being of the world's people.
"From the 32 practical measures proposed at the Global Development High Level Dialogue, it can be seen that China has a very clear plan and implementation path for promoting the implementation of global development initiatives." At present, more than 100 countries and international organizations have supported the initiative, and nearly 70 countries have joined the Group of Friends of Global Development Initiatives.
Somali Ambassador to China Avale stated that the global development initiative aligns well with Somalia's own development plans, and the initiative's focus on cooperation, innovation, and inclusiveness has resonated deeply among the Somali people. Currently, multiple challenges such as weak global economic recovery, geopolitical conflicts, and climate change are intertwined, making it difficult to advance the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Several Chinese and foreign sources have expressed their expectation that all parties will achieve more practical cooperation results within the framework of global development initiatives, and accelerate the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The representative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization in China, Kang Bosi, stated that this year will welcome the mid-term evaluation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. However, currently, more than 30% of the sustainable development goals are still stagnant and even regressing. The global development initiative proposed by China has brought hope to address global challenges and the development needs of developing countries.
"Under the framework of the Global Development Initiative, China has led the establishment of a cooperation mechanism, established cooperation platforms around eight key areas, determined the cooperation methods of the initiative, and implemented specific cooperation projects, all of which fully reflect China's determination and ability to promote global development." Kang Bosi said that the United Nations Industrial Development Organization will continue to firmly support the implementation and implementation of this initiative.
Egyptian Ambassador to China Hanafi stated that developing knowledge should not be a resource exclusive to individual countries, but should be shared and beneficial to all humanity among nations. The Egyptian side sincerely thanks China for sharing development knowledge with other countries and firmly believes that China's global development initiative will effectively help countries promote the common cause of implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, becoming a platform for sharing development experience and promoting cooperation among countries.
