According to Sky News on July 25th, on the 24th local time, Sean Ennis, a professor at the Competition Policy Center at the University of East Anglia and former OECD economist, representing over 1500 application developers conducting business in the UK, sued Apple Inc. in the UK Competition Appeals Court, accusing Apple of using its industry monopoly to charge high commissions to application developers through the Apple App Store. The prosecution demands that Apple pay compensation of up to approximately $1 billion. Currently, Apple has not responded to this lawsuit.
According to reports, Apple's revenue has grown rapidly in recent years thanks to services such as the Apple App Store. However, Apple's practice of charging 15% -30% commission to application developers through its in app payment system has been criticized by application developers and has also been investigated by antitrust agencies in multiple countries.
Previously, Apple had stated that 85% of its app stores do not require developers to pay commissions, and the company has also helped a large number of European app developers enter markets in 175 countries and regions.
