At around 10:00 am on June 5, 2023, the slope retaining walls of buildings 6 and 7 in Jinxiu Jiangnan Community, Wanzhou District, Chongqing City were partially inclined and the ground subsidence occurred.
After the dangerous situation occurred, Wanzhou District immediately activated the emergency plan, evacuated the residents of buildings 6 and 7 in the community and properly resettled them, without causing any casualties. The district emergency bureau, district housing and urban-rural development commission, and other departments are working together with the street office where the community is located to carry out emergency construction, safety testing and identification work in an orderly manner.
Preliminary judgment shows that the risk is caused by continuous heavy rainfall leading to soil saturation and a significant decrease in soil shear strength.
