On the vast green space of the city of Nova Tanki in the northeastern state of Bahia, Brazil, wind turbines are arranged in a neat and orderly manner, with white blades slowly rotating in the wind. Recently, the new Tangi wind power project of CGN Brazil Energy Holdings Co., Ltd. was officially put into operation, injecting new impetus into the cooperation in the clean energy field between China and Brazil.
The total installed capacity of the New Tangi wind power project is 180 megawatts, with an estimated annual power generation of 720 million kilowatt hours, making it one of the largest bladed wind turbines in South America. These clean electricity can meet the annual electricity consumption of 430000 Brazilian households, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 650000 tons annually, equivalent to planting 1800 hectares of trees.
"China General Nuclear Corporation (CGN) continues to increase investment in the new energy sector in Brazil, demonstrating its responsibility and commitment to environmental protection." The Governor of Bahia, Jeronimo Rodriguez, stated that the commissioning and operation of wind power projects will help Bahia establish a clean energy matrix and accelerate energy transformation.
Since the start of the project, multiple innovative practices have been adopted, achieving the forefront of similar projects in Brazil in terms of safety, quality, and overall construction period. For example, in order to safely and quickly transport giant blades from China to Brazil, CGN Brazil and local logistics operators jointly designed a groundbreaking logistics project, which was launched 69 days ahead of schedule. Local media in Bahia state reported that the wind turbines of the New Tangi wind power project are equipped with the largest wind turbine blades currently used in Brazil, enhancing power generation capacity.
While providing clean electricity, the project has created a large number of employment opportunities for the local area. "The Chinese enterprise wind power project has benefited us a lot," said Paul Cannero, the mayor of New Tanzania. In addition to directly creating more than 1000 job opportunities during the project construction period, CGN Brazil has also provided employment skills training for local residents, making it easier for them to enter the company or engage in related work.
From components to port, to wind turbine transportation, assembly... Matthews Skeochet, Deputy Manager of the Project Engineering Department, participated in all aspects of the work. "Participating in the development and construction of the new Tanki wind power project is an important work experience in my life," said Skiochet. Chinese colleagues have rich experience in engineering technology, project management, and other aspects, always patiently and meticulously communicating with him, "further enhancing my knowledge and skills in engineering, project sustainability, and management.".
In the process of project construction, CGN Brazil actively fulfills its social responsibility through various means, such as building roads and bridges for surrounding communities, improving basic education in impoverished areas, and sponsoring sports for people with disabilities. In May of this year, the science popularization team of the project department visited three local primary and secondary schools to teach students science popularization knowledge on clean energy. Through painting activities, they interacted and exchanged ideas with students, which was widely welcomed by teachers and students. "I really like you all, and I have learned a lot about wind and solar power." Several elementary school students at the Lagoanova Municipal School in Novotanki City smiled, expressing their feelings about participating in science popularization activities.
Recently, the new energy science popularization education base in Xintanji City, built by CGN Brazil, is open to the public for free. The nearly 1000 square meter indoor exhibition hall displays sand table models, wind turbine equipment, etc., to educate the public on clean energy knowledge such as wind power.
"The establishment of an education base is of great significance." Chinese Ambassador to Brazil, Zhu Qingqiao, stated that while Chinese enterprises are achieving their own development, they are also actively benefiting the local economy, society, and other fields. "The New Tangi Wind Power Project and the New Energy Science Popularization Education Base are vivid depictions of the accelerated transformation and upgrading of China Pakistan cooperation in the new era.".
