The Chinese representative pointed out that due to economic cost considerations and ignoring the concerns and opposition of the international community, Japan has insisted on discharging nuclear contaminated water into the sea and treating the Pacific Ocean as a "sewer". No matter what the content of the International Atomic Energy Agency report is, it cannot change Japan's continued discharge of millions of tons of Fukushima nuclear contaminated water into the Pacific Ocean for the next 30 years.
The Chinese representative emphasized that China once again urges Japan to stop its plan to discharge nuclear contaminated water into the sea, and to dispose of it in a scientific, safe, and transparent manner. It also cooperates with the International Atomic Energy Agency to establish a long-term international monitoring mechanism that includes the participation of Japan's neighboring countries and other stakeholders as soon as possible.
