The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is one of the most authoritative international organizations established by the United Nations Environment Programme and the World Meteorological Organization in 1988 to assess climate change. As an important organization of the United Nations, it aims to provide scientific reports on climate change to countries, provide scientific information that can be used to formulate climate policies, and conduct comprehensive assessments of socio-economic cognition, climate change causes, potential impacts, and response strategies.
The scientific assessment of climate change is an important foundational work for human society to understand and respond to climate change. It has always been highly valued by the Chinese government. In the recommendations of previous IPCC presidium members, top scientists are preferred as co chairs of the first working group of the IPCC. For a long time, Chinese scientists have excellently completed the work of co chairs, providing strong scientific support for adapting to and mitigating climate change.
