China's renewable energy scale and technology have achieved dual breakthroughs, helping to improve the energy structure of wind power | China | Technology
CCTV News: In order to promote the achievement of carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals, China is vigorously developing renewable energy. In recent years, China has made tremendous progress in the field of major renewable energy projects, with the proportion of renewable energy continuously increasing, laying a solid foundation for the improvement of China's energy structure.
In the sea area of Pingtan, Fujian, the world's first 16 MW offshore wind turbine is undergoing the final debugging work before grid connection for power generation. After being completed and put into operation, the wind turbine can generate 34.2 kilowatt hours of electricity by rotating one revolution, which is equivalent to the usage of a family of three for 7 days. It will become the world's largest offshore wind turbine with a single unit capacity that has been put into operation. In the Kubuqi Desert, the world's largest scenic base is being intensively constructed. Hundreds of large-scale construction machinery complete 200 acres of sand dune leveling every day. According to the plan, the first phase of the 1 million kilowatt photovoltaic power generation project will achieve grid connected power generation by the end of this year.

The reporter learned that in recent years, renewable energy represented by wind power, photovoltaics, and hydropower has developed rapidly in China. As of the end of April this year, the total installed capacity of wind and photovoltaic power generation in China has exceeded 800 million kilowatts, accounting for 30.9% of the national installed capacity. All 16 units of the Baihetan Hydropower Station have been put into operation, generating over 100 million kilowatt hours of electricity per day. The six giant cascade hydropower stations on the main stream of the Yangtze River have also formed the world's largest "clean energy corridor".
Along with the leapfrog development of clean energy, energy storage facilities are also accelerating their follow-up. In 2022, 48 new pumped storage projects were approved nationwide, equivalent to the total of the 13th Five Year Plan. The new battery energy storage technology has also made significant technological breakthroughs, which will store and release electricity at lower costs and higher efficiency.

Xu Huaqing, Director of the National Center for Climate Change Strategy Research and International Cooperation: Especially for energy storage represented by lithium batteries, the energy density has increased by more than twice compared to ten years ago, the power density has increased by 50%, and the lifespan has also greatly improved.
