Construction of sewage treatment plants by Chinese enterprises benefiting 5 million local residents
The Dasher Gandhi sewage treatment plant project has actually been in operation for over a year. In the past year, the sewage treatment problem in Dhaka City has been partially solved, and the ecological environment of Dasher Gandhi Village has significantly improved. A local "stinky water river" that used to accumulate silt and floating garbage has gradually become clear and bottomless.
CCTV reporter Zhang Yue: My current location is the Dashergandi sewage treatment plant in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. This is the largest single sewage treatment plant in South Asia to date. After the sewage treatment plant, built by Chinese companies using Chinese design schemes, technology, and equipment, was put into operation, it has benefited over 5 million Bangladeshi people in the surrounding area.
Villagers of Dasher Gandhi Village: Previously, this place used to have dirty black water, but now we can swim in clean water.
Villagers of Dasher Gandhi Village: After the Dasher Gandhi sewage treatment plant was put into operation, we have reduced many diseases, such as mosquito bites, malaria, diarrhea, etc. Before the factory construction, many of us had no jobs, but during the construction process, many people were able to find employment. It's a good thing for us, and we hope to benefit more in the future.
The Dasher Gandhi sewage treatment plant project started construction in August 2017 and was officially put into operation in April last year. The factory can treat nearly 5 million people's domestic sewage in the capital city of Dhaka every day, greatly improving the current situation of water pollution in Dhaka and also improving the quality of life of local residents.
Russell, operator of the Dasher Gandhi sewage treatment plant: We discharge purified water into nearby rivers, and now the river is no longer polluted. This project has played an important role in improving the ecological environment of Bangladesh.
Rahman is a chemical analysis technician in the factory. He has lived and studied in Huai'an City, Jiangsu Province, China for over 3 years. He said that friends from China are building Dhaka as beautiful as Huai'an.
Rahman, a chemical analysis technician at Dashergandi Sewage Treatment Plant: I spent three precious years in Huai'an, which is a very beautiful city. Nowadays, Chinese friends are working hard to build Dasher Gandhi, aiming to turn Dhaka into a beautiful city like Huai'an. I am deeply grateful for this.
