On the 26th local time, the UN Security Council held two public meetings on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The Chinese side stated that it is necessary to prevent the situation from escalating, control the impact of the crisis, and promote a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis.
Chinese Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Geng Shuang, stated at the meeting that the situation in Ukraine has been escalating for a period of time, the conflict and confrontation have continued to expand, civilian casualties have been increasing, and important civilian facilities have been severely damaged. China is deeply concerned about this. Geng Shuang pointed out that it is urgent to alleviate the suffering of the people and prevent the situation from escalating. China calls on both sides of the conflict to abandon the logic of military confrontation, maintain calm and restraint, prevent the war from spiraling out of control, and prevent irreversible situations from arising.
Geng Shuang, Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations: The parties to the conflict must strictly abide by international humanitarian law and relevant international conventions, avoid attacking civilians and civilian infrastructure, avoid damaging cultural heritage, avoid irresponsible transfer and use of cluster ammunition, especially avoid any actions that may affect the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, and make every effort to prevent a nuclear disaster.
Geng Shuang reiterated that the Black Sea Port Agricultural Products Export Agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding on Russia's Grain and Fertilizer Exports play an important role in stabilizing global food prices, maintaining global food security, and especially improving food supply to the most vulnerable countries. The window of opportunity for the resumption of the package agreement still exists, and the international community should urge the parties to intensify dialogue and consultation, actively move towards each other, address each other's concerns, and strive to restore the export of grain and fertilizer from Russia and Ukraine as soon as possible. China supports the Secretary General's continued efforts towards this end.
Geng Shuang stated that increasing persuasion and promoting political resolution is the fundamental way out for the Ukrainian crisis. On the issue of Ukraine, China has always advocated that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries should be safeguarded; The purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter should be respected; All parties and security concerns should be given attention; All efforts that are conducive to a peaceful resolution of the crisis should be supported. China will continue to work tirelessly with the international community to promote a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis.
