"From June 27th to 29th, the 14th New Leaders' Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum will be held in Tianjin. More than 1500 political and business elites and scholars from nearly 100 countries and regions around the world have confirmed their attendance. This is the forum's restart in China after 4 years and the return to Tianjin after 5 years." Chen Liming, the person in charge of the World Economic Forum, recently stated in an interview with our reporter that this annual meeting will provide a face-to-face communication platform for leaders from all walks of life, helping attendees to timely understand the economic prospects of China and the entire Asia.
Chen Liming introduced that the theme of this year's annual conference has been determined as "Entrepreneurial Spirit: The Driving Force of the World Economy", with the aim of reigniting the entrepreneurial spirit and the vitality of enterprises as innovative entities, exploring the path of economic recovery, and promoting the world economy to steadily move towards a more equal, sustainable, and resilient future. "In order to advance this goal, we have designed six main themes: restarting growth, China in a global context, energy transformation and material supply, consumption trends in the post pandemic era, and protecting nature and climate and deploying innovation. Around these six themes, this forum will hold more than 180 sub forums, all of which are deeply related to everyone's immediate interests and are important livelihood topics faced by all humanity."
The Davos World Economic Forum has witnessed China's openness and development, and China's philosophy and achievements have made the "Davos spirit" even more dazzling. Since 1979, China has not been absent from the Davos World Economic Forum; Today, the "Davos spirit" with openness and cooperation as its core is resonating with China's development. Chen Liming stated that over the past 40 years of China's reform and opening up, the World Economic Forum has maintained close cooperation with China. In 2005, Klaus Schwab, the President of the World Economic Forum, proposed the idea of "China's Summer Davos". In June 2006, the Beijing Representative Office of the World Economic Forum was established, which was the first representative office of the World Economic Forum established outside Switzerland. In September 2007, the World Economic Forum held its first Annual Meeting of New Leaders in Dalian.
When it comes to the performance of Chinese enterprises, Chen Liming speaks highly of it. He said that in recent years, China has been continuously promoting the transition from "Made in China" to "Made in China". Chinese enterprises have continuously broken through technological difficulties, mastered core technologies, and become the focus of the world. As of May this year, among the more than 130 "lighthouse factories" selected by the World Economic Forum, there are 50 Chinese companies; In the latest batch of "Global Technology Pioneers" rankings at the World Economic Forum, China ranks second in the world in terms of the number of enterprises. In addition to outstanding performance in intelligent manufacturing, digitalization, and new technology applications, Chinese listed companies are gradually leading the world in the field of green and low-carbon.
China's tremendous achievements in the field of technological innovation have left a deep impression on Chen Liming. He stated that as of the end of 2022, the effective number of invention patents in China was 4.212 million, making it the first country in the world to have a domestic effective number of invention patents exceeding 3 million. The latest World Intellectual Property Indicators report released by the World Intellectual Property Organization also shows that China's effective number of invention patents has ranked first in the world. In 2022, China's total investment in research and experimental development exceeded the 3 trillion yuan mark for the first time, and the global innovation index ranked eleventh. "China's technological innovation achievements have been integrated into people's daily lives through methods such as mobile payments and e-commerce."
Chen Liming said that China attaches great importance to the development of new and clean energy. As of the end of 2022, the installed capacity of renewable energy in China exceeded 1.2 billion kilowatts, historically exceeding the installed capacity of coal-fired power; China's production and sales of new energy vehicles have ranked first in the world for seven consecutive years. In the first five months of this year, China's exports of new energy vehicles reached 457000 units, a year-on-year increase of 1.6 times, maintaining a high-speed growth. "China's vigorous development of clean energy is of great significance for the global response to climate change and achieving sustainable development."
"As the world's second-largest economy, China's total economic output accounts for about 18% of the world's total, and it is a major trading partner of more than 140 countries and regions. Since the beginning of this year, multiple international institutions such as the International Monetary Fund have raised China's economic growth expectations, predicting that China's contribution to global economic growth will exceed 30%. China injects sustained momentum into the world's economic development, and its huge consumer market brings spillover effects to neighboring countries." Chen Liming said that this summer's Davos Annual Conference has set themes such as "China in the Global Context", hoping to explore China's future business opportunities and provide reference for partners.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the initiative of jointly building the "the Belt and Road". Over the past 10 years, China has signed more than 200 cooperation documents with more than 150 countries and more than 30 international organizations to jointly build the "the Belt and Road". Chen Liming said that the "circle of friends" for the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" is constantly expanding, and a large number of landmark projects have been launched to promote the continuous improvement of trade and investment levels of the joint construction countries and drive economic and social development. This summer's Davos Annual Conference has set up a sub forum of "The Future of the the Belt and Road Initiative", looking forward to finding solutions to the challenges facing the current world economy through dialogue and exchanges, and jointly building a better world.
