Black soil is recognized as the most fertile soil in the world. The vast black soil of Northeast China is a famous "granary" in China, occupying an important position in the development of agriculture, especially in grain production, throughout the country. Lishu County, Siping City, Jilin Province is located in the famous Golden Corn Belt and is an important grain producing area in Jilin Province. The total cultivated land area of the county is 3.938 million mu, and the annual total grain production is stable at a stage level of over 4 billion catties. While the grain harvest has been abundant for years, the black soil has also been overdrawn for a long time, causing the soil layer to become thinner and the organic matter to decrease.
In order to protect and make good use of black land, Lishu County has carried out research and promotion of maize conservation tillage technology in cooperation with scientific research institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences and China Agricultural University since 2007. After years of exploration, a mature and effective "pear tree model" for black soil protection has been formed.
The pear tree model is a transformation of traditional cultivation methods. By returning all straw to the field and covering it on the surface during the corn planting process, the number of cultivation times is reduced to a minimum, and all field production processes are mechanized to achieve conservation tillage. Leaving straw on the land is equivalent to covering it with a layer of "blanket", which can reduce wind and water erosion, prevent soil degradation, enhance soil drought resistance and water retention performance, and greatly protect the black soil layer. With the promotion of conservation tillage, black soil is becoming increasingly fertile. Nowadays, the "pear tree model" has become a comprehensive synonym for wind prevention, soil stabilization, soil fertility enhancement, drought resistance, soil moisture retention, and cost saving and efficiency enhancement.
