Low Carbon Universiade, Green "New" Chengdu
In the low-carbon experience hall of the Chengdu Universiade, high-tech experience devices such as low-carbon Rubik's Cube, carbon cycle lightbox, power bike, and energy cabin have attracted the attention of many citizens. "Green" is a distinctive feature of the Chengdu Universiade. At the same time, by leveraging the demonstration effect of low-carbon transportation, Chengdu's green new economy is also thriving.
The concept of low-carbon environmental protection is not only reflected on the ground, but also hidden underground.
Outside the Xindu Xiangcheng Sports Center, the gray asphalt concrete floor surrounding the venue may seem ordinary, but in reality, it exudes a strong sense of technology. The structure ground around the venue adopts permeable concrete technology, which can keep the ground dry and most importantly, has the function of naturally retaining rainwater. The retained rainwater is treated by a recycling system and can be converted into water for the greening and maintenance of the venue. By using this system, the venue can save more than 3000 tons of water annually, reduce water consumption by 20%, and basically meet the needs of green maintenance water.
In addition to these visible and tangible green scenes, some invisible technological applications also moisten things silently, empowering the "Green Movement". The exterior floodlighting project and landscape lighting project of Fenghuangshan Sports Park adopt LED lamps, which can be switched to daily mode and competition mode through intelligent control system. The daily mode is an energy-saving state that reduces energy consumption.
Du Shengge, Deputy Minister of the Urban Work Service Department of the Executive Committee of the Chengdu Universiade, introduced that the venues of the Chengdu Universiade use renewable energy according to local conditions. Venues such as Fenghuangshan Sports Park and Jianyang Donglai Impression are equipped with ground source heat pump systems, and the center of the Shuangliu Tennis Venue is equipped with cadmium telluride power generation glass for road signs. The Dayun Village is fully integrated into Chengdu University through a "combination of construction and renovation" approach. "We will also refer to the Beijing Winter Olympics and strive to release the 'Chengdu Universiade Green and Low Carbon Organizing Report' one month after the competition, extract typical cases, and form a green and low-carbon practice heritage of the Universiade," said Du Shengge.
It is reported that the newly built venues for the Chengdu Universiade will fully use green building materials to reduce construction waste and pollutants. In addition, Chengdu has invested 1340 new energy buses and more than 1000 new energy small vehicles as transportation service vehicles for athletes, technical officials, and other sports venues, achieving 90% use of new energy vehicles for transportation from the Dayun Village to the central urban area, and 100% use of new energy shuttle vehicles within the Dayun Village.
Promote the economy through competitions and continuously release new drivers of urban economy. Chengdu fully utilizes the opportunity of the Universiade to stimulate industrial vitality, actively leverages local industrial advantages, accelerates the integration of new energy facilities such as charging and swapping, photovoltaics, and hydrogen energy, and promotes energy structure adjustment. The Longquan competition area is equipped with 50 "Longquan made" hydrogen fuel vehicles for event support; The completion and operation of the PetroChina Ancient City Oil and Hydrogen Joint Construction Station in Pidu District has alleviated the hydrogen demand of over 100 local buses
Collaborate with the competition and city sides to accelerate the construction of low-carbon cities. Yang Binping, Chief Engineer of Chengdu Ecological Environment Bureau, said that Chengdu is improving its green and low-carbon development mechanism by reshaping the urban spatial pattern and building a green and low-carbon industrial ecosystem. At present, the scale of Chengdu's green and low-carbon industry has exceeded 250 billion yuan.
