On June 11, CCTV News of CCTV reported that Chen Dong had been the captain of the Chinese People's Liberation Army's astronaut corps.
Screenshot public information shows that Chen Dong, male, Han ethnicity, native of Zhengzhou, Henan, born in Luoyang, Henan, is a member of the Communist Party of China and holds a master's degree. He was born in December 1978, joined the army in August 1997, and joined the CPC in April 1999. Formerly served as the captain of a certain flying squadron in a certain division and regiment of the Air Force, and was rated as a first-class pilot of the Air Force. In May 2010, he was selected as the second batch of astronauts in China. In October 2016, the Shenzhou-11 manned flight mission was carried out, and in December of the same year, it was awarded the honorary title of "Heroic Astronaut" by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the State Council, and the Central Military Commission, and was awarded the "Level III Aerospace Merit Medal".
In 2022, Chen Dong will enter the Chinese space station as the commander of the crew of Shenzhou XIV, becoming the first Chinese astronaut in orbit for more than 200 days. In 2023, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the State Council, and the Central Military Commission decided to award Chen Dong the "Second Class Aerospace Merit Medal".
